Roag, a couple of things. One, you said technically he bought the sled from your dealer. Two, if you truely know in your mind that the sled was fine after you sold it, you are not responsible. I feel your pain. I want the person who buys my things to be happy with their purchase. If things can't get worked out in a professional manner, all bets are off. If he had the sled for a couple of days and something happened you might feel obligated, but a month, no way. Tell him very nicely that you believe that the sled was in perfect condition, running and sold as is. Stick to your guns and don't challenge or raise the stakes by fireing back. Everything from him at this point forward should be in writing, then you have a paper trail. I would write him a registered letter explaining your side and let him know if he keeps fanning the flames, you will contact your Attorney. That should quiet him down. Let us know how it works out.

1. He bought a used sled, and its up to him to test ride it, have it inspected, do compression/leakdown tests if he's concerned, etc. He bough it, with no written (or even verbal) warranty. Case closed, you don't have anything to worry about.
2. He modified the motor by putting a turbo on it. He seems to admit to not noticing anything wrong before putting the turbo on it. He modded it, so its out of your hands...case closed.
3. Yamaha won't do a thing for him. a. The motor had aftermarket filters. The rep who installed my motor told me in no uncertain terms that if my old motor would have had filters on it, I wouldn't have a new motor right now. b. They also would never cover a motor problem with a turbo on it.
4. If the dealer did the actual deal, its in their hands, not yours. Otherwise they should have sent him to deal with you directly, outside of their shop. If they did the deal, you don't have anything to worry about...case closed.
5. If you were able to synch the carbs without a problem, then there was obvously no valve issues then. And how about oil consumption? I was using 1 qt. in 100 miles, and my compression was within spec. Leakdown was 25-35% across the cylinders though. So if the rings were that bad, the last ride you took would have left oil coming from your exhaust tips (mine tips are still black and oily). If you didn't see the oil light coming on he probably didn't have a problem until the turbo was put on.

Have to agree the filters are far less likely to be any problem than the turbo . A motor with 2 bad cylenders does not tune very easy as well . He probably set the turbo wrong and now he wants you to pay for his error .

rhoag... I feel for you. Here is what we do at ECP when we build any high performance engine:
We break it in and perform the 2 oil and filter changes required. We then dyno the engine to make sure it is correct. We also charge for this service!
My opinon is like this... If you sold the sled with no warranty then there is no warranty. PERIOD! If Yamaha is stupid enough to warranty an engine that had a turbo installed then this guy is a lot better than any of us. I would be willing to bet he put too much boost to the engine and began to detonate the pistons. The first thing that happens is you begin to close down and pinch the rings shut. Tell this guy you want to inspect every pistons and see if any of the rings are stuck in the grooves. Chances are if the valves and seats have any damage whatsoever, he boosted it too much. I built an engine for a guy 1 time and I made the mistake of showing him how to increase boost. He had the wrong fuel in the engine for that much boost and did not retard the ignition timing like I instructed him to do. His ego took over and he made some quarter mile asphalt passes. It went real fast and quick 1 time! He continued to run it something like 10 more passes on 2 different days and ended up detonating his engine like this guys. The ensuing argument commenced and I told him that I heard the engine detonating as he was attempting to make passes. Regardless of my attempts to get him to stop with so much boost, he continued. I washed my hands of that customer. I cannot tune an engine on anything if the customer is willing to lie to me. No one could! Also get a look at the spark plugs... they tell a serious story. If he wants or you want to send me the offending parts, I will look at them for free and give my take on them. I would need the pistons as they are removed from the engine with the rings intact and all 4 spark plugs.
900+ ECP Air Kits sold and from what I know not 1 engine failure. I would have to say that this a real good track record!
Let me know if I could help!
My Address if he or you want to take advantage of my offer is:

03 with 4100 miles and 2000 with ECP. Absolutely no problems. Going to change the plugs just because I want to.
I have seen this kind of thing before and I have been the person who has had troubles with equiptment after used sale. Not sellers fault sometimes s**t happens.

Looks as if this does end up in court, things are going to be in rhoag's favor because of all the good publicity that those that use my air kits are providing.

I was re-reading posts and i want to clearify what I said above- I mentioned that the Yamaha rep would not have warranteed my motor if I had filters on it, but that has NOTHING to do with the quality of the filters. Its just basic warranty policys- if an engine was modified (even mildly) and the engine blows, unless you have a dealer that "looks the other way", the engine won't be covered, regardless of the quality of the aftermarket product.

Jim,
It doesn't matter what was on it! My Air Kit or a turbo system. Yamaha will not warranty it if it had a turbo system installed anyway.

I agree with most, if there was a problem with rings, it would have smoked like a smokestack. If it would have had a bad valve, or spring, it would have never have been synced right. Don't let it sweat you rhoag. Not your problem, cause there was no problem.

I thank you all for your input and like I said before, I had no problems with the ECP kit and the sled ran great. Freddie I appreciate the offer, but I don't have any of the parts and really would like to just put the whole situation out of my mind. I will stop worrying about it thanks to te words I have read on here I do believe the sled was fine when he took it.
On a brighter note. Trailered 2 hours north and found good snow today. Then railed some really nice wide trails and forest service roads on my GT. I almost have the suspension where I want it.
Once again thanks.

Seems like it has been covered but 2150 miles on a 04 warrior with ECP kit, no problems, it rocks!!!!!
