Guys,
Just wondering if anyone else is noticing excessive movement in their spindle bushings ? When I grab hold of a ski tip with the sled on the ground, and lightly move the ski left and right without actually moving the steering, I notice movement inside the spindle as if the bushings are worn, or the bolt that holds the ski to the spindle is too narrow in diameter. I'm posting this thread because lately, I've noticed my Slydog Race skis are darting quite a bit on groomed and hardpacked trails, and I've already upgraded several front end parts including the Oilite bushings, and an OFT Relocator. The excessive slop in my front end is totally gone, but the skis are darting far too much on groomed trails for my liking. I am running 6" Roetin carbides, and I already adjusted the skis from stock toe out to about 1/8" toe out. I also shimmed the rear of the bumpers again this year with thicker shims. I'm hoping that another turn on the rods, which should make the skis slightly toed in, will help alleviate the problem. I need to settle the sled down so my gf will be able to ride the sled with confidence, otherwise, well, you know how it goes
Appreciate the replies and suggestions
Dave
Also, here's some pics from yesterday's run

Dave,
My spindle bushings are tight by I do have alot of play in the upper A-arm bushings, is this what led you to the Oilite bushings? where did you get them, the lower A-arms are tight, just the top ones. Have you checked your ball joints, I've read a few guys experiencing the darting due to worn ball joints.

my spindles are shot.. there is soo much play in the spindle / ski mount location it is sickening.
Frankly, the suspension on the sled has been a complete disappointment and an utter failure.

Hey Kevin,
I got the Oilite bushings from sledwerx in Ontario. They are supplied from Allen Ulmer, so either of the two is where I would suggest buying them. I had my ball joints replaced under warranty last year, but they might be worn out again. Nonetheless, my MTX skis are nice n tight, while my RTX skis are sloppy within the spindles, so I'll start with the spindle bushings first and go from there. Now I'm beginning to wonder if it's the RTX spindles themselves, because Yamaha had updated the spindles from 08 - 09 and newer models. Hmnnnn.....
Either way guys, check your spindles for free play within the area where the bolt passes through by lightly moving your ski left and right holding onto the handle, might be worth looking into if your sled is darting on groomed and packed trails.

Spindle bushings??? Aren't the spindles attached by heims joints/ball joints. The only bushings in the whole front suspension are at the base of the A-arms... 8

I think people are getting their terminology confused here. The spindle bushing he is talking about is on the bottom of the spindle and is used to connect the ski to the spindle.
We are not talking about the play in the a-arm mounts to the chassis (a- arm bushings), nor the spindle to a-arm mounts (ball joints / heim joints).
Just trying to clear this up.

Get ahold of member Upbushman. He makes some real nice stainless bushings and the washers for the spindles on our Phazers which I believe should fit the Nytro perfectly.Ulmers a-arm bushings take care of the a-arms.

You're absolutely right, I'm talking about the bushings inside the base of the spindle where the bolt passes through and attaches the ski to the spindle. Other than these bushings, the only other bushings I can think of in the front end are at the base of the A arms, but as I stated earlier, I already replaced those with Ulmer's Oilite bushings, which are excellent by the way ! Thanks Allen
