Apex Motor Oil

As always everyone's input is greatly appreciated. Have been running Amsoil 0-40W for awhile but have some useage/blowby at extended WOT on warm days. Called the Shell techline and they seemed o.k. with it for ATV/Sled useage (altho' you could tell the guy at the other end was no sledhead) so I will likely try it out. Was under the impression that 0-40W was a thinner oil for colder temps (pourability) and covered a wider temp. range than the stock 5-30W that is called for.... ;)!

I could be sarcastic in my reply, but I will be an adult and state the testing agency I went through was an independent testing laboratory, (OAI Testing). Amsoil merely offers the service as a pass-through. They did not recommend any brand of oil from their analysis. I personally prefer Amsoil from years of using it in my Husky's and KTM's. I hope this clears things up.

Hey, if it works for you and your happy using it then carry on.

Just curious who owns this "independent" laboratory and is this a common practice of their's to do oil analysis's?

Any way you could post up the print sheet with your results from this lab or was it only what they said??

Just curious if everyone on here who uses Yamalube semi syn 0W-30 should continue to do so, especially if it is spent after just 400 miles?

To answer your original question:

Yes, I've used Rotella full syn 0w40 in an Apex for several years. I also called the Shell tech line, and they assured me that it's not just for diesels. It's good for any engine that calls for the API spec stated on the label, and 0w40 is the same viscosity regardless who makes it.

I took no offense from you Irv, and I hope you did not either from me. I wasn't speaking to anybody in particular, just my thoughts on how the discussion was evolving.

I hope you saw my point simply was that people feel strongly about the oil they use and fights start every time oil discussions begin. Claims that one oil is superior to others, etc. And the original question wasn't calling for those replies either.

I ran a clean up company for 10 years..oil spills etc.at shell in montreal east..and we also did their packaging plant..they had us clean the areas to not get the oil from one type to the next..and they had 3 types of oil. :drink: .and I was told that like most things..cheap is cheap..and usually means crap..so spend the xtra buck,if you love your sled..lol..I ran yam oil untill the warrenty was over..now I run shell..and not full synthetic..I find my sled runs hoter with only full synthetic..and it gets cold here..lol..never had a starting issue. ;)!
