Apex vs RX1 Engine

Guys i found a rx1 for a pretty good price and im wondering how much of a hassel is it to bolt a rx1 motor in my attak. Would i still beable to use my FI? I have to replace the motor and bulkhead and the rx1 seems to be the way to go i only use this sled a scatter time and it doesn't even bother me all that much if i lose my FI. I never even pulled the motor apart yet but the head may still be good on the attak if i need that.
 
I bet the motors are pretty different/ Not set up for EFI. And you'd lose 30++ HP. I doubt it's worth the added headaches. There are several used Apex motors on Flea Bay right now, and several vendors here on TY are parting out Apex sleds and would have a motor to sell you. I bet you could get a motor for a $1000 or so.
 
the motors look the same and the hp difference is far from 30 i believe its only around 10 or less. I have never seen a apex motor go for that cheap most are more than double that and i can get the rx1 for cheaper than that.
 
Is your original motor totally unfixable?

And I just did some checking -- they are pricey for a replacement! Urgh!!!! What happened to yours?

Good luck. I'm sure you'll get it to work out. Man, I'm amazed at the price of those used engines. Wow, like $2,400 and up.
 
If you swapped the apex head to the RX1 block you 'may' be able to use the FI but there may also be a sensor in the block on the apex not sure.

The apex as a lighter crank, and different head. If you just swapped the RX1 motor in your gauge pod wouldn't work either, unless you swap all the ECU and electronics from a RX1.

Pretty sure you would be fighting gremlins for a while after the install. Its never been done because its cheaper to just sell the junk pile and get a different apex.
 
the attak is just a pile of junk setting in the shed right now and its not worth the cost of another apex motor and bulk head. i can get the rx1 for dirt cheap from a friend and i just figured it would be a good project. If not the attak will just stay the way it is and ill keep it for spare parts for my other one. Supersled it broke a rod and trashed the crankcases I already blew 3 motors in that sled and unless i convert it to an rx1 it wont see another.
 
Can someone tell me what the difference is in a apex vs rx1 head?
 
There is locations on it cast in to mount the FI system. There is also a different cam in the apex. That is all I can remember. I had it in my head you could NOT put a apex head on a RX block and vice versa but I dont know for sure.
 
Why not run the RX? Swap seat and plastics, tunnel extension, suspension, either move the bars forward like the Apex (been done on here) or just a riser and tilt the bars forward a might! Sell whats left over! Someone has done the Apex Attack front plastics as well but I wouldn't bother I like the clamshell better.

To me that would be a much easier job and less headaches. RX = Attack not much difference after that except motor!

Otherwise you have to swap all electronics including dash pod along with the wiring plus the bulkhead and there are quite a few differences in the electronics and wiring! Seems like way to much work with no gain and possible problems!
