Asphalt results "2006"

June 4 2006
Thundervalley Drag Way

The track was very very slick. It was "Corvette Day" and test & tune. There was maybe 12-18 Corvette's there and then 6-7 other test and tune vehicles and only one other car with slicks. They didn't prep the track like a normal race event (didn't put down as much VHT) so the track was extremely slick off the start.

Run 1: Ulmer Racing Stage 2 Apex

Nice gain with the leaned out Air/Fuel ratio!! 1.3 mph gain in the 1/8 mile and a .048 second and 1.7 mph gain in the 1/4 mile

Run 6:Ulmer Racing Stage 2 Attak (same clutching & suspension settings as Run 2)
Leaned out the Air/Fuel Ratio at WOT

660: 7.331

The belt was too aggressive resulting in more spin and a slower 60' time. Still had better MPH in the 1/8 & 1/4 mile than 8DN belt.

Run 7: Ulmer Racing Stage 2 Attak (Same clutching & suspension settings as Run 2)
Same setup as Run 5

MPH: 117.686

All in all traction sucked but we made some gains in leaning out the fuel mixture and learned some things.

The temp ranged from 81*F to 83*F in the 3 hours we ran. The humidity ranged from 53% to 58% and corrected altitude from 4081 feet to 4720 feet.

Allen, just think,.........I have to deal with this traction issue everytime I go to the track cause of the gravel dust.

Terry, I pitty you big time!!! I was as soft as I could set everything pretty much!! It was pretty consistant though, but still sucked! Next time out if it's this slick I'm going to try some different combinations and moving the weight around on the Super Tips.

Edit: Added in some weather information from our weather station while we were running.

Well guys had a good time last night at NYIRP. Wednesday night is Import Night, but had some larger than normal attendance due to the big IHRA event this week, a lot of guys trying to get ready for the weekend.

60’ times were average at most, and had a few runs in the 8.8’s and a couple in the 8.7’s when we went down the middle of the track. There is more here just have to sneak up on it…

Best ET of the night was 8.784 at 150.57... (best MPH for the night was 150.8) :-o

Awesome Mikey!!!

Well, managed to get out for another weekend, weather was good, other than headwinds all weekend. Managed to pull off a couple of runs close to the 10’s, a 10.02 and a 10.06. Ran my fastest speed ever, 131mph rounded off, I’ll post the results when I get a chance, too busy with other stuff right now. Made it to round two on Sunday and ran a 10.18 on a 10.30 dial on low boost. Everyone was starting to break out and both I and my opponent broke out on that round, only he broke out less than I did. It was all in the reaction time again!!!!

Blew two front wheels on different runs, first one, I was out of the groove quite a bit and there’s a cement slab that sits at the least a quarter inch higher than the asphalt and a chunk of the front ski wheel blew off when I ran over that. Didn’t really notice until I slowed down and the wheel stopped spinning and just dragging on that spot. It just made it a little harder to turn around. The second time was a couple of runs later guess the back wheel on the same side had taken a pretty good hit too and it just disintegrated, and I didn’t even notice it until I let off the throttle and the sled seemed a bit snaky, I looked at the left ski and everything was in tack, then looked at the right ski and all there was, was bearings left. Next race is on the 24th and 25th. Safe grad on the 24th, not sure on how much sleep I’ll be getting so I don’t expect to come out on top!!!!

Ryan (pro116) and myself will be doing a little clutching tomorrow night, and hopefully the rain stays away.

I have to thank Ryan (pro116) for coming down and helping out with clutching and towing the Attak back to the pits. Thanks Ryan!

Friday Test & Tune 6-16-06
Temp at the track was 90 degrees with 44% humidity. Dropped to 77 degrees with 60% humidity. Wind was right down the track at us with 30+mph. Tried some different clutching combinations.

1st run - Tried a supertip combo with a pink spring.
1.615 60ft - 7.098 1/8 @ 95.792mph - 11.399 1/4 @ 111.096mph

2nd run - lightened weights to get correct rpm
1.599 60ft - 7.073 1/8 @ 95.566mph - 11.367 1/4 @ 111.200mph

3rd run - put in Attak stock clutching
1.603 60ft - 7.102 1/8 @ 95.556mph - 11.390 1/4 @ 111.404mph

4th run - put in my super tip clutching that I used on trail with nitrous
1.616 60ft - 6.570 1/8 @ 108.906mph - 10.355 1/4 @ 124.262mph
over 1 second difference with the nitrous

5th run - Ryan took the sled down with the same clutch setup.
1.599 60ft - 6.806 1/8 @ 102.141mph - 10.864 1/4 @ 116.946mph

Ryan's run proved to me that 40-50 lbs. really plays an effect on time and speed. Also noticed that the fuel injection does not seem to be adjusting to hot weather. Had some bogging issues off of the line.

Saturday 6/17/06 Super Stock Outlaw & Jet night
Same temps and humidity as last post. In a nut shell, TOO HOT!!!

1st time run - same clutch setup as last post when Ryan ran the 10.86 (lane 1)
1.593 60ft - 7.079 1/8 @ 94.480mph - 11.390 1/4 @ 110.784mph
wind speed was 30 + again right in our faces

2nd time run - same as before (lane 2)
1.591 60ft - 7.105 1/8 @ 95.631mph - 11.425 1/4 @ 110.016mph

round 1 - lane 1, dial-in was 11.44
1.614 60ft - 7.111 1/8 @ 94.224mph - 11.670 1/4 @ 87.635mph
On the brakes hard, won round 1

round 2 - lane 1, dial-in was 11.42
1.587 60 ft - 7.055 1/8 @ 96.237mph - 11.434 1/4 @ 97.537mph
on the brakes, won round 2

round 3 - lane 1, dial-in was 11.33 (raced my good buddy Ken Ziats with his mid 9 crank shop 1000)
1.583 60ft - 7.035 1/8 @ 96.576mph - 11.285 1/4 @ 112.817mph
Ken ridlighted by -.020, so I was able to run the sled out the back door, and not worry about breaking out. Won round 3

round 4 - lane 1, dial-in was 11.29 but the threat of storms were coming
1.594 60ft - 7.089 1/8 @ 95.679mph - 11.398 1/4 @ 110.915mph
Won round 4 due to the other guy redlighting when his slipper clutch failed and launched the bike forward.

With the last 2 getting ready for the final round, the rain and wind showed up, so the race was cancelled. Good news is I went to the final round, made some good money, and bumped my points up to 1st place I believe, but will post when point standings are updated.

Good Father's Day weekend for me!

Made it out on Saturday for test and tune. Not much to report from that. Times were in the 9.9s and 9.8s. Not too bad I guess for the number of cars and high temps.

My racing in Sunday was cut short. Made 2 trial runs, then found part of my track coming apart. Looks like I may be taking another week off until I can get a new one. Hopefully I'll be back in business for the shootout in July. #$%&*
