I thought I read somewhere that the cat gears weren’t as strong as the Yamaha gears. That’s what I think we’re all using for the 22T top. It’s an Arctic chaincase.
I’m liking the 22/41 but the 24/50 sounds like it would be a lot of fun, just not much top speed.

Yep, I went to the local Cat dealer for the 22
Picked up my 22T from Yamaha shop, but they go to local Cat dealer just so they can have them on hand for those who want one. Mine is the older model gear without the partially drilled out holes. $27

I am likely going back to stock 21/41 for belt life.....(removing my 22)
I see speedwerx has a 42 bottom avail. https://www.speedwerxstore.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=3805
Just wondering if anyone has tried a 42 bottom?
21/41 good for approx 125 Theoretical(GPS)
21/42 good for approx 122 Theoretical(GPS)
22/41 good for approx 131 Theoretical(GPS)
Im thinking 122gps for me is fine since I trail ride 99% of time, and did not even once get out my stalker radar gun this season. And i spent the entire season with 22 gear in there for no reason, likely hurting belt life. I can see the 21/42 combo being a nice sweet spot for even better/cooler belts(than stock gears) yet abit more top speed then stock '19 gearing(same as cats) 24/50 which is only good for about 118gps.
All calculations done at 8900rpms.
Any thoughts? I am not sure stock chain would fit with the 21/42 but I think it will be close, if anyone has tried this combo please let me know.
thx

I ran 131.4 GPS with 22/41 in just over 2000'. May have had a few more mph in it but would be high in overdrive.

133 gps with 22/41 and a tune running up to 9600 on over rev for me is the best gear bottom to top for trail riding for me but these sleds will pull tall gears on the right conditions and run some big numbers.

I agree.....Tom slapped in some tall gears and with lots of boost its like the sky's the limit, they just keep pulling and pulling!133 gps with 22/41 and a tune running up to 9600 on over rev for me is the best gear bottom to top for trail riding for me but these sleds will pull tall gears on the right conditions and run some big numbers.
Im aiming for belt life next season.....And the corner to corner these monsters have is just so damn fun.

I went/am going the lower gearing route as well for this next season. Also switching my 17 LTX LE to the Storm 150 track (patiently waiting for it to be delivered).
I rode with the 21/41 and then the 22/41. I very very rarely ever had to safe distance on the trails to achieve 125+ gps speeds. And the few fields or open trails I had long enough never seemed to have safe enough conditions to attempt to hold it that long.
In combination with the storm 150 I got a set of brand new 24/50 gears. Little more low end to get the slightly bigger lug going and should increase the corner to corner playfulness even more, which is where most of my fun riding is done. 118 mph gps will be plenty for me even in a race on the trails. We never race for 3000 ft across a lake to prove who's geared higher. We race 500 ft or 660 or whatever visually looks like that. At max 1000 ft.
Short of another sidewinder with taller gearing of this distance is long enough I'll be handily ahead of any 2 stroke by the mid way point and they won't have newly enough time or distance to gain on me if they are even capable of 120+ gps speeds without crossing the length of the Pacific to get there.
I have one of the "good ones" that came from the factory with damn near perfect alignment and offset. So I haven't had any bely blowing issues to speak of in my 3300 miles and counting. My clutching and tune has worked very well together. I'm sure the lower gearing will just further lessen the load on my belts. Much like old apex and nytro when I only changed belts at the beginning of each season as preventative maintenance and not out of need from failure.

So, where do we buy the best up to date gears? Who sells them?

For me the two belts I have blown did not appear to be a heat issue. Nothing was hot. Stumped.
The secondary clutch doesn't close fast enough in relation to the primary disengaging. Cycle the secondary and make sure there are no rough spots, mine had a casting flash that caused a slight rough spot when it rubbed. If you have the dalton b/0 sec spring, make sure its wrapped to 70 and not 60. Lastly, the secondary seems to close better with the belt deflection kind of loose. Belt flush with the top of secondary, not above it.
Yamaha finally admitted and knows about this problem, their fix for next season is larger rollers in the primary and a different secondary spring, possibly a diffferent helix as well. I changed my rollers to viper rollers (15.6mm vs 14.6mm) and I liked it better, but unfortunately only went for one ride so cant comment on belt life yet.

Depends where and how you ride. 60 isn't recommended by Dalton, but I could see it being fine for high speed trail riding in QC and similar. But for riding tighter trails at lower speeds with hard on/off throttle it doesn't back shift quick enough.

Set my B/O to 3/3(60) for my Qc trip. It works fine on the super highways up there, but everytime I came to stop belt would not come to top unless I babied it in with throttle easily.....It would even squeel the belt if I came in to stop to fast, I could hear it. Luckily I was listening for this when I dropped wind down from 70 to 60. So for my tight twisties here, corner to corner I will certainly be going back to 70.
It does run very COOL at 60 for sure though. Worked fine for all the miles on those super highways.

Do u have a link to the gearing calculator? I can't seem to find it. Thanks.I am likely going back to stock 21/41 for belt life.....(removing my 22)
I see speedwerx has a 42 bottom avail. https://www.speedwerxstore.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=3805
Just wondering if anyone has tried a 42 bottom?
21/41 good for approx 125 Theoretical(GPS)
21/42 good for approx 122 Theoretical(GPS)
22/41 good for approx 131 Theoretical(GPS)

All calculations done at 8900rpms.
Any thoughts? I am not sure stock chain would fit with the 21/42 but I think it will be close, if anyone has tried this combo please let me know.
thx
