I understand the wait and see aspect (power and speed). I too would like to think that in it's stock form the SW will offer me enough to quench my thirst for both and maybe something I haven't had for a while, (easy steering and handling).
But with that being said, when I made the deal a couple of weeks ago (traded my Turbo Attak stage 1 and 2) for the SW, and letting the dealer know about my wanting to keep this one stock, he just smiled and let me know how much was left on the table by Yamaha with this one, and mentioned some hp numbers that he thought were attainable with just flashes and of course clutch and gearing changes. D&D and a few more were mentioned!!! Will I be able to keep it stock?
I keep saying to myself over and over, 5 year warranty 5 year warranty 5 year warranty and hopefully that will keep me in a modification parameter as the numbers and talk really get going this fall.....

I only asked for 150 HP 4-stroke in a newer lighter chassis. I got that & more. Although i haven't even ride this beast yet, cheap reliable extra HP seems awfully tempting. I may have to leave this site for the summer cuz i may lose my mind...

so my sled has the TD 3 stage 250,270 300 tunes with anti lag and knock light....when the power goes up...everything on the powertrain gets tested...so be prepared for much more in the way of mods and tuning...
the knock light will tell you when you are entering deto...the first thing it does is adjust boost...often the boost adjust is in action BEFORE the knock light...IMHO TD has the most comprehensive safety features.
I have flashed ecu's with these tunes from stage one to race.
I expect there to be less gains in the exhaust since it is a straight shot off the turbo and the outlet already looks like a modded outlet for the cats turbo (assuming the stock muffler is a straight through design vs baffled) , if its well baffled you can expect a solid 8-12 h.p...
single flashes will be the easiest..if you get a multi stage...you will have a rotary dial with a small harness to tap into the ecu plug in,,,no cutting of wires..if available, the knock light plugs into the obd port with a matching modular connector..
wonder if for the yam mill is as the boost goes up will the stock intake need an aftermarket plenum made?
all in all , Id recommend riding with at most a muffler for the first period....theres more than enough power on tap to not need be a guinea pig..not to mention the potential belt issues.

That is where alcohol injection comes in. Kicks in at a predetermined boost. Always on pump gas and then a little alcohol sprayed in the plenum when needed to raise your octane.

The beauty of it is you can use so many different mixes as long as your tuned for what you use. Washer fluid can be used. My buddy used it on a gn. He used denatured alcohol because you could get it at any hardware store. If you only need it if your over 300hp and at wot then you wouldn't use much if any trail riding. You would never have it on the 300 hp setting on the trail for belt life and chassis life. Even if your out of elky your fine as long as you don't run the hot tune.

Whoa whoa whoa there, alcohol, nitrous, water meth No Way. And I thought that I had it bad!!! Ha Ha..
Here are a few of my thoughts as of right now that is!
5 year warranty, 5 year warranty, 5 year warranty,
87 - 91 octane
Good MPG
Quiet exhaust
Excellent ride and handling qualities
Lighter sled
Now let's Listen to the other side of my mentality.
I like power and speed, how much?
Always said that my Attak was too much on stage 2 for trails(250 ish).
Stage 1 @ 200 hp was fast but deceptive with it's even pull. Still worried when others tried it out, it took some time in the seat to get used to with it's speed and not so good handling characteristics.
So now I combine the 2.
5 year warranty, do not VOID.
Perfect amount of hp (220-235)
87 probably out of question but no more than 91
Keep quiet stock exhaust.
Numbers that were kicked around when I was at the dealers were at my high end and a bit more. That was assuming it really is a 204 hp motor stock which I doubt. I commented that I expect more in the middle of the 2 hp reports put out the 204 and I think 186. So let's say 190 ish. Add 30 more and voila!
But this is all talk and that is cheap, mods are not, so let us wait until real numbers come out on hp and mod pricing without voiding warranty and I shall spin again then.

Remember! Manifold persure will likely be in memory so anything over stock will likely toss the warranty on a very expensive motor! 230 will not happen without increasing boost!

Guys, these mods aren't for everyone and that was not the intent here. It's to let the big power guys know there will be options for mods similar to what that Cat guys have been enjoying since 09. Whether you need more boost or not is a different topic.

Yeah I agree with the warranty tossing, but with this high tech motor with 9 sensors I thought the boost was controlled thru the ECU which is how the let's call it (smart engine) 87 - 91 octane safety feature works? So would it be possible to add boost with a ECU flash?Remember! Manifold persure will likely be in memory so anything over stock will likely toss the warranty on a very expensive motor! 230 will not happen without increasing boost!
Yamaha had what they called smart carbs many years ago in the 600V Max motors, so that is why I chose the term Smart engine.

Yes i'am sure it will be easy to make more power safely however once the boost goes up the ecu will hold that in memory and should a problem come up you will likely be on your own! Just kind of sounds like some are thinking if they keep it reasonable they will still have warranty?

Although you should use premium fuel, the Genesis turbo ECU will retard ignition timing and adjust boost pressure to prevent engine damage
