Wondering if anybody can help me out, I have 14 viper xtx with Mcx 190hp turbo. Was working fine until I blew a belt, replaced belt gave it a good run and then it seemed like it loaded up. Try to get get past 50 mph and it surges like it is trying to clear itself then takes off and works fine sometimes. Any suggestions? Thanks

Ben, are you running completely stock secondary set ups for these speeds? In reading many of these replies it's sounding like helix shimming needs to be done or something more to eliminate belt slippage. Is there something us TD customers should be doing differently? Thanks
Stock 3-3 settings on the torsion, stock cam stock spring, not sure if customer shimmed or not. Shimming the cover allows a little more overdrive.
Btw i have 2 customers just report 1400 trouble free miles (Dad and Son same sled setup) with td ecotrail and td turboforce mufflers and the Dalton weights we include in our kit. Stock secondary...
There are many for sure with more miles but they have not reported yet. Probably still riding.

Ben - Are you referring to shimming the helix?

Yeah, ive personally never tried that coming from a cat clutch background but some of my yamaha turbo customers are doing this to get extra overdrive.Ben - Are you referring to shimming the helix?

Shimming should ALSO give a touch more room for the spring to compress. The coils are bottoming out onto each other on some. And the Helix is not consistent from one sled to another.. Not many guys getting all three rollers to touch on STOCK helix. Which is why the rollers are flat spotting..
read page 5 in this post about taking spring out of secondary and placing belt in

Placing thin washers between helix and secondary sheave? I'm riding with a guy this weekend with a Ski Doo 1200 turbo that runs really well and I could use all the top end I can.

check to make sure where your belt bottoms out..Placing thin washers between helix and secondary sheave? I'm riding with a guy this weekend with a Ski Doo 1200 turbo that runs really well and I could use all the top end I can.

Set as stock the belt stops about 1/4" from bottoming. With a lock washer installed as a shim the belt will pull down to within an 1/8" of the bottom.

As long as it not BOTTOMING out..Set as stock the belt stops about 1/4" from bottoming. With a lock washer installed as a shim the belt will nestle all the way into the secondary.
Watch for coil bind.. Like the coils pressing into each other. And I'm thinking of turning my spring tighter especially with 192 studs. I know Ben (TD) and others Are doing fine with stock wind on that spring so I'm hesitant.

The only negative is I would need to switch to a thin height lock nut. With the shim the threads do not protrude through the flange nuts.

Don't know if I would like that/trust that.. Red/blue lock tight? The only negative is I would need to switch to a thin height lock nut. With the shim the threads do not protrude through the flange nuts.

That is probably a better choice. I'm heading on a trip Friday morning and I may run without shimming first to see were I'm at. We will be doing a lot of lake running so it will be a good test. I haven't even had a chance to ride it with studs as the first 145 miles were without.

Still haven't had a chance to test, but this issue has been on my mind and wanted to share some thoughts.....
Years ago had Bender Turbo on rx1, 255hp, best I saw was 167mph on speedo. I know....that was probably only 120 gps, but here's my point....never blew belt on that rig.
I wonder if someone had a button secondary off viper if testing would show less heat vs winder roller? Does anybody own both and able to test?

I'll pay someone for their extra clutch to test
