Blown Belt

Good idea. Only issue is that it actually seems some guys are doing good with the stock secondary, and others not so much. What's the X factor or factors on the bad secondary vs good. That's the question we need answered on this forum. I don't have the answer but I know the guys on this site will solve the new secondary issues in dew time. The test above we be good start especially if you can get a "bad"roller to test against. Then change parts on the bad and eliminate from there

Wel ....ad me to the list. Just under 400 miles and I snapped a belt in half. I am slightly boosted (TD Eco) , muffler , daltons and cat rollers(two rollers touching and one not). I sure hope someone figures this out.

I bought the winder solely because I knew it would be better on belts then the team clutches. Boy was I wrong

I had my fair share of cat belt blowers so I sure hope this gets figured out fast. I'm bummed

IMO snapping a belt in half means the secondary is not shifting out far enough, and primary just keeps pulling down on belt and with this much HP they just snap.

It sure seems like either helix castings are off, or something else in that secondary is not allowing it to shift up fully. I read someone mention the torsion spring is binding, like not enough depth for spring to compress into the pocket, sorta like coil bind.

Makes me wonder if Yams first fore into the roller world needs some re-engineering?

Hope you guys figure this out, it does seem like its not all of them, but some of them.

Dan

Those of you that have blown a belt is the thin washer shim there behind your secondary? Maybe the ones missing it are the ones blowing belts?

Wondering if I will end up having a problem too. The small black ring close to center low in the primary in this picture is why I wondering. I am far from mechanically inclined, but I don't think my other sleds have this wear there. I haven't checked the deflection when running, but it seems sitting low in the secondary too. Maybe at least 1/16 below the top of the sheaves at rest. Thoughts?

Black ring appears to be caused from excessive idling so I think you re alright there, but others will chime in if im wrong. I don't think you ll have an issue as by looking at your clutch it appears your belt has only been 1 inch from the top. If I had to guess you probably haven't gone more than 90-95 mph. The color looks good higher up so things appear to being working well in my opinion.

If you'd like to join the club, you re gonna have to press harder, maybe put a tuner, do some racing in the slush on a 60 degree day, that should help you join the brotherhood!!!! Lol. Just kidding.

Plus, I checked my clutch offset. Per specs in manual, tolerance is 58.1-61.1mm and I'm at 60.47, so well within spec.

Still haven't had a chance to test, but this issue has been on my mind and wanted to share some thoughts.....

Years ago had Bender Turbo on rx1, 255hp, best I saw was 167mph on speedo. I know....that was probably only 120 gps, but here's my point....never blew belt on that rig.

I wonder if someone had a button secondary off viper if testing would show less heat vs winder roller? Does anybody own both and able to test?
In post #68 Stone says he did that and ran 128 mph GPS.

checked mine, 58.7, with 1 washer of unknown thickness at this point, but going to either add 1mm, or remove original and put one 2mm to try to get closer to middle of range of 59.6. i ordered one of each.

This is not good news. Were you at top end when it went or somewhere in midrange? I have your same setup but with Ulmer rollers and I'm heading north this weekend. After having two Cat turbos I'm really hoping we get the belt issues resolved. I think I will shim my helix before I go.

Checking my secondary distance tonight, but I do know I have a thick washer behind my secondary.

126mph here (loose groomed trail)

I have nothing behind my secondary. Doesn't the OSP adjuster float it, so it wouldn't matter.

That's caused by loading it too slow on the trailer with a cold belt. Mine did that when my buddy pulled it up my tilt trailer, stopped and continued up. I could smell it. Clean it off with brake cleaner or acetone.
