BROKEN PRIMARY SPRINGS. Keep eye on.

Great pics and info. A lot of factors involved here with what's happening. Number of coils, wire dia. , spring height, compression rates etc. And that spring is spinning at serious revs and gets compressed and decompressed tons. Any hang up or rub and it's effecting performance and eventually compromised strength.
Curious if ANYONE runs stock spring with 911 cover? I run a 911 but not stock spring. The cover could be part of the issue?

Thanks Don. Good work trying to find the answer.

First thing that pops into my mind from looking at your photo is it hitting the cover? Maybe glide washers or those bearings are the only answer. As a dealer who is candid with us here what is Yamaha saying? The broken springs are adding up.

I'm a bit disappointed with Yamaha's help in the Service/tech department lately. We had a great RTA at Yamaha the past few years but he now moved on to a different area of Yamaha so getting good info has been a little trying. We tend to get the Never heard of that or we will look into it: seems to be the go to response these days.

Just about all the clutch components are on back order right now. Primary sheave, cover, spring and spyder are currently not available. This usually means they are not having the best of luck. Just had to give a customer a clutch off a sled on the showroom after his clutch got damaged from a belt blowing.

take a bright flashlight and run sled at around 4000 rpms you will see the spring vibrating and shaking

Yes there is something about the harmonics of this engine that might be a issue as well causing the spring to fail prematurely.
Also our customers that now have on around 3000 mi the Bolts that hold the rollers on have wore heavily into the spyder from vibration and I have not seen this before even on high mileage Vectors, Nytro's, and other triples.

Maybe they need to go back to the drawing board on these clutches Don. The team clutches on the Cat are sounding good right now.

Someone will figure this out. Even if we have to put complete clutches on them. And skis, and shocks. Maybe Yamaha will take our lead and actually produce the complete package down the road. But like a winning prizefighter this sled has heart. We can train it. It will no doubt be the champ for a while!

Have the cat/team clutches had any issues? And are they inner changeable?

Maybe they should think about putting a harmonic dampening ring on the back side of primary.. The Cat clutches(not Team) used to have these rings that were bolted to the back side of the primary AND were I believe for the harmonics.. I think they started doing this on the 700 2 strokes..

And the rattle sounds like Sh*^.. I know it does not hurt anything but when people hear that and know nothing about Yamaha clutching they think what the hell is that noise.. Its to loud on these winders

Actually hearing they have them dialed in pretty well.. I do not think they are interchangeable.. I know the secondary is not for sure..

Ok shame. I heard good things about the cat clutches. I guess for some might be better to purchase a cat, only differences are clutches and skis. Little different gearing too.

The sad part is it took CAT 5 years to figure out the clutching on the 800's.. Think about that for a second >five years!.. I came over to Yami for better clutching and then CAT gets it figured out.. AND Yami has the exact same issues CAT had in 2012 with Cat clutching (not team then).. I almost cant believe how similar the issue are and were.. Both springs binding/paint rubs, rollers, no top end, etc.. I really feel the CATS are better looking and its now even on clutching.. SO ?? Now the real question is does Yamaha fix the issues from the 17' clutching on the winders..

the clutch has more side play than I remember on previous yam clutches with way more miles..couple this with the stub-to-crank play (where the noise is coming from) and maybe this has somethingto do with it..?

Are there issues with Team clutching on 2017 Arctic Cat turbos ?
