Attach you will find a reply from Camoplast concerning the track howl.
The wheels they claim! They are making sure they don't take the hit for this!
Hope this helps those of you with this problem, Lou

We have done many test with the Yamaha suspension and the ripsaw track. the problem is NOT the track it is the wheels and Yamaha if fully aware of this.

Subject: Yamaha Track howel

Hello Camoplast,

There is a huge concern with all Yamaha owners equipped with the 1.25 Ripsaw track, owners are forced to wear ear plugs in order to ride their machines.
Is anything being done to rectify the noise this track produces?
Paste this URL into your browser and you will see what I am talking about:

Some are purchasing the Arctic Cat Quiet Track you produce hoping it will help reduce the deafening howl. What is so different about this track that makes it quiet vs your standard?

Please advise.

Thank you in advance

I hope I noticed this correctly, but it looks like my 06 wheels are rubber coated, should have looked closer. So if the 06 sleds are quieter, which I wont know for 6 weeks or so, we may be on to our best clue as to solving the problem :D

I hope so, I don't even know if mine has this problem or not. Just jumping in trying to help those with the problem.

I ran a few different prototypes of the 06 wheels for part of last season.

The noise was reduced (probably down 2-3 dB), but still too loud to be considered quiet. It was only after switching back to the stock 05 wheels that I noticed it was worse with the hard plastic. I believe the source of the noise has more to do with the track than the wheels (but is probably a complex combination of tunnel geometry, track, wheel pitch, and exhaust resonance coupling)

This year I ordered a set of the "heavy" accessory wheels with the thick rubber and 6205 bearings.

I'm expecting these will be a little quieter than the 06 wheels, but not much. The main reason for my replacing them is the little lightweight 6005 bearings used on the 05 and 06 don't survive many miles compared to the 6205 bearing (the 6205 weighs twice as much as the 6005 and seems to last much longer on my sleds). Also the accessory wheels have replaceable bearings.

These wheels themselves are also much heavier than the 05/06 wheels. I'm sure that's why Yamaha went to the 05/06 wheels.

If any of you are considering these on an RX monoshock skid...

Kevin at Port Yamaha told me they have installed the wheels on many monoshock skids. The one potential issue is the wheel rides a little close to the inside track drive lugs. Cutting 1.5 mm off the inner wheel mounts recenters the wheels (but to be done right needs a machine shop).

Also these wheels require a longer bolt to install (on all 05/06 sleds) - Yamaha part number 95817-10085-00.

If it's the wheels as Camoplast claims, why is it still present when the wheels are changed to the Polaris larger diameter wheels or the suspension is changed as others have tried?

Sure would like to hear what Yamaha has to say about Camoplast's theory.

Lou, you should forward that email onto Yamaha. It's something like this that might stir the pot a little. I hope that's a legit person's name attached to that email and not a fraud.

Yes I will, Anybody have a good contact to send this to? I am not sure if the "contact us" e-mail link will get it to where it should really go!

I wish I knew someone with a Vector so I could hear this noise first hand. It's really pegged my interest.

My Warrior makes a droning hum sort-of noise at low speed (under 25mph) but nothing annoying enough for earplugs.

I have only 1056 miles on my '05 RS Venture and have much the same story.
Quiet at decent speed but defening at around 40 mph.
Seemed to get much worse as my hyfax wore down.
I burned up my new ones (hyfax) about 2/3 on their first season.

Installed new ones a week ago and also installed 6(six) +5mm dia. rubberized wheels. My dealer claims that this will both severely reduce hyfax wear and also quiet the track somewhat. I beleive him on the hyfax wear but not on the noise.

folks that have changed to rubberized wheels have reported that they did not experience much of an improvement...

You can do a search on this forum and read last year's comments and theories.

Forget the rubber wheels. I tried than last year and it did not make any differance. They just got chewed-up from the studs, so this year its back to the plastic. Also, as I stated in the BIG track noise post, no one seems to be complaining about noise from the Rage?
