Camoplast response about howl

I had implied that earlier that the only thing left is the way the coggs hit the nubbs. The noise was still there even when a track was changed or a skid was changed.

I own an 05 Vector and still am wondering what howl you guys are talking about. The only time my track makes any noise is when it is packed with snow.

Just wondering how many miles you have on your sled? Mine didn't start until about 850-900 miles. It's to bad because i like the sled with the exception of that noise at cruisin speed. I also hate wearing ear plugs. Again excellent web site and a lot of good info.Let just hope someone at Yamaha is smart enough to figure this out.

I only managed 1500 miles on it last year. Maybe it's coming yet. Most of the miles were in lots of snow in the UP.

Don"t want to hear all this stuff about track noise! Good point on Jack shaft problem, this could be a factor in the track noise. THe jack shaft problems was too be corrected for the 2006's models hopefully this has reduced the noise.

Just don't hope too much on the jack shaft fix .... here what i wrote on that in the other tread

Forget the jackshaft problem. I had the howl problem since day 1 with my Rsventure, had my jackshaft break at around 6000kms, replaced by a modified RX1 jackshaft and made an other 2000kms after and the howling noise had not changed at any time.

Just before the jackshaft break, it bent a little bit. It just make a vibration on the left side similar has a spotted drive belt. The howling noise had never changed all through these steps....

Good try but ....'' sorry, try again''

I too would like to see the machines listed with each reply. I have two 06 Rages coming and would like two know which or if all machines have this problem. It would also help us possibly solve this our selves.

Not a jackshaft problem or a high mileage problem. Mine did it pretty much right from day one. Mine's not involved in the jackshaft program either.

Here's a cheap theory. Maybe the howl has something to do with airflow thru the track holes and some interaction with the dimensions of some part of the skid near the holes? If you have ever seen the internals of a siren it might be something like that? Its kind of along the lines of blowing across the mouth of a bottle to make is sound like a fog horn.

Is there anything different with these sleds than an Rx1 with the same suspension?

Where are your limiter straps set? I would like to know if there is a correlation between limiter strap length and track howl.

I have only 1056 miles on my '05 RS Venture and have much the same story.
Quiet at decent speed but defening at around 40 mph.
Seemed to get much worse as my hyfax wore down.
I burned up my new ones (hyfax) about 2/3 on their first season.

Installed new ones a week ago and also installed 6(six) +5mm dia. rubberized wheels. My dealer claims that this will both severely reduce hyfax wear and also quiet the track somewhat. I beleive him on the hyfax wear but not on the noise.

You are right, it does get worse as the hyfax wear, however you were nowhere near the point where you needed to change those hyfax. The first 2/3s does wear fairly quickly, then they basically stop wearing for the next 1000-1500 miles.

ok i think we should stop freaking out with this issue and put plug in our ears anyway any snomobile you drive for the safety of your ear we should wear ear plug .

Is it ALL of them that is making the noise? Or is it just some of them? Yamaha *has* issues a recall on the jackshaft for a certain defective batch, is it possible that the noise is related to an unstraight jackshaft and NOT the track at all?

LB, it's a good thought, but I think that in most cases (like my own) the noise gets worse as the hyfax wear. I can't see a connection between the hyfax wear and the jack shaft...
