Can't get traction

I have a 09 Nytro with a ZX2 in the rear. Standard GYTR shocks in the front. I do not run studs, and will not run studs. This sled will not hook up at all. Coming out of every corner the track is spinning, hammering down on a straight away, the track is spinning. Heck half of the time I can hardly get going on pavement without getting off the sled and pushing.

The steering effort is very hard. Wasn't sure I was going to make it home last night as I was wore out from trying to turn this thing. I loosened up the preload on the front shocks until the springs were loose. Seemed to help some with the steering effort, still not much traction. I tried going both ways with the preload in the rear and neither seemed to make a difference.

Really frustrated, anyone have any ideas?
 

Try the OFT Relocator if your arms are getting tired. I personally do not have one, but from people on the forums here they say it helps a ton to level the sweep of the bars (more like traditional snowmobile steering and not down into your lap)...also brings the bars up and forward a bit.

For the traction, I also rode my XTX last year with no studs and had no traction. Its kinda fun fishtailing into corners, but I agree it gets annoying. If yours is a 121" I'm sure it would be even worse. All I can say is studs. I studded mine this year and its awesome. Maybe look into a pre-studded track (like a camoplast ice ripper) if you ride lots of hardpack.

I can always switch skis, but I figured the fact that the steering is so hard has something to do with the balance of the sled not being right.

Again, I will not install studs. Studs do not make sense for me due to the the miles I ride and my style of riding.
 
Can't even get traction riding a berm on the side of the road. A old school 600 vmax pulls harder than this sled because it will dig in.
 
Not sure on setup of zx-2 but you have too much ski pressure. Need to make the skid transfer more to get the weight off of the skis and put the weight back into the skid. All the weight is forward so it wants to dig the ski's into the ground and plow. If the zx-2 has limiter straps, loosen them up in the front some.
 
If you refuse to stud, you have no chance in hooking up on packed or ice condition. A better track can help but you still will not be satisfied.
 
x2 and I found on my SE that more psi in my front shocks makes a difference. gets more pressure on the center and rear of the track rather than just on the bend in the rail up front
 
I run a 1.75" without studs, with my 2 Nytros and have never had a problem with hook-up. It sounds like a combination of things, but I would try to get better transfer. Also, I run MTX skis with Sno-Trackers and really like the setup. I just installed the ZX2 in one of my Nytros and have not been out yet. Please keep us informed.

I understand this, but the sled is not even hooking up on a plowed bank running along the side of a road while other non studded sleds are.

Regarding the limiter strap, the ZX2 comes with a non adjustable limiter strap so there are no changes that I can make.

Will cranking the front springs all the way tight, cause more weight on the rear?
 
More front spring preload will help a little but won't help the transfer. I know Royal Distributing sells an aftermaket limiter strap adjuster, might be the way to go.
 
Try increasing center shock preload, should increase pressure on the track, increasing transaction and lightening up steering.
