Chain Case Failure?

I had heard it is a Borg/Warner chain...... Wondering if they are adjusted correctly from the factory and if the dealer even checked them. I have a RTX with 0 miles on it, will be checking mine before it sees snow. My Knee is doing great, 3 weeks post op today and I am walking without crutches for the most part and almost have my full range of motion. Hopefully take it on its maiden voyage in a few weeks. We will see.

Id sat so. At 250 miles our turbo viper needed 6 turns on thebwdjuster.

Holy cow! 6 turns? Are Viper chains longer than previous Yammy sleds?

I had mine checked at around 350 miles and mine was fine. Weird. That's a huge chain to be stretching that much! Craziness :o|

I'll be keeping check on mine. Normally after 1000 miles and good oil the adjustment stays the same, all brands. Even with having to remove the dxxx muffler I'll keep a check on it.

I am beginning to wonder if they used AC chain supplier or found a new supplier and its prone to stretching more than we are used too?
It's a standard Borg-Warner setup. Always check it before the first ride, and around fifty miles....less frequently after that. But that was always in a 2 stroke race application. Similar hp numbers, and the same chain and gears. They do stretch.

1 turn on the adjuster for any new sled during break in is normal. 6 turns is not. Next time you have the case apart measure the chain deflection with 6 turns slack. Not good!!!!!!!

130 km on my viper chain case went into neutral put it in reverse then it went forward but there was lots of noise so brought it to the dealer and he had another one already apart pretty Pst off.why did they have to use a chain case that was already giving them trouble.thank god I keeper my nytro, was scared of that chain case. :yam:

I don't think it's the chain it has something to do with the serval, mine made noise right from new .not put together very well

Can someone provide instructions on what needs to be done to remove the exhaust to gain access to the chain case nut? The exhaust bolts are apparent but guidance with the spring and any other hidden connections and how to preserve the gasket would be appreciated.

Chan case failures

Really like the sled. Nicest sled I have ever owned in MHO

I am just waiting for more feed back. I have not seen any reports (Unless I missed it) back from anyone who can give any facts as to what the dealer said happened. Especially anyone that had broken gears. I also have not seen any reports that it has happened a second time. Most of you guys are a lot smarter than me BUT I have talked with three separate guys who know what they are talking about and they all agreed on two things.

#1. A loose chain alone will not cause a sled to jump out of gear

#2. If it jumps out of gear whether there is damage or not "It is a problem"

I am older as are most of my sled friends and I have asked twenty five guys and have not found one that ever had a sled jump out of gear.

I am leaning towards installed incorrectly or moving on its own or getting some kind of signal to move

I agree with you mike. I believe it is a glitch in electronics causing this whether it be a connection or the brain doesnt talk to the muscle right. Either is not going to be solvable by me or any dealer till Yamaha says what to do so all we can do is pay attention when you use reverse. Take your time. Make darn sure its engaged in either direction before getting on it hard. Check chain tension and just ride.
