I have the base model 07 no reverse. The previous owner must have hit a rock ans cracked the inside of the frame below the chain case. The crack is only about a have inch long but causing a very slow leak out of the bottom of the case. Can I just weld the crack and put some silicon on the seal at that spot. If not what are my options besides new frame.

JB Weld? It's been know to do miracles. Welding aluminum requires special equipement and finesse and then machining to get the perfect surface for the seal to do its job. At least JB Weld can be worked and sanded without too much trouble. Silicone could then fill in any small imperfections.

I have the same damage on my Phazer but luckily didn't crack into the chaincase or if it did, it's just a hairline and not really leaking, at least not fast enough to be noticeable.

I would try just silicone. Good high quality oil specific rtv silicone. Drain the oil, pull the cover, clean with carb cleaner and dry with compressed air if possible. then smear inside and out trying to push into the crack. reassemble and let dry like 24 hours before putting oil in it.

I had a similar crack in the engine/tranny case of a big v-twin suzuki bike that i fixed permanently like this.

jb weld does not bond well to anything that will be drenched in oil, (at least my experience anyway)

So I took chain case cover off tonight and the crack don't go into chain case. I had a new track put on about two months ago and dealer didn't have the seal on the groove at the bottom that's were the oil was coming from good thing I checked, the bottom of the case had about quarter inch of ice in it. Put seal on right and all was good. I also put jb weld on the crack maybe that will prevent further cracking. Dam dealer mechanics anyway good thing I only rode it once with new track. Thanks again for the help, greatly appreciated.

Crack is below chain case and a little toword the front. I have a skins float plate but its just outside that hopfully jb weld stops further cracking its only about a half inch long

Stop drilling a crack works well to prevent furthur cracking, then you just need to have welded.

When i hear someone say JB weld, I cringe? That is a cuss word to a welder, machinist. Better off using chewing gum. Cheaper and works just as good.all it will do is cover the crack, not stop it. :o| i advise getting it fixed before it does more damage.
