I'm thinking of replacing my gears and chain because they have 12,000 miles on them. Gears look fine. Chain is in spec. However, I don't want to spend money if I don't have to. Driveshaft just sheared and its all apart now sooooooo..... But that chit is expensive!!
Anyone have their chains fail for no reason?? I'm not talking if a bearing goes, or if it runs with no gear oil. Just a straight failure.

Only an aftermarket chain has ever failed for me.
The stock ones have never failed on me, yet we are getting much higher mileage than we ever have before...
Have thought the same thing as you because of the higher miles.

Better to change the cheap chain than buy new cases when that 1 fails, you do the math.Just my .02 better preventive maintenance than the "big bang" maintenance.

I had a chain kablamo. Its not pretty. Takes out both front and back of chaincase. Also made a couple of holes in the oil tank. Also along with this, it pretty much destroys the bearings.
