How many of you guy's have changed your chaincase bearings and how many mile/km? I have just about 10,000km on my 17' Sidewinder. I was going to change my drive axle bearing (caliper side) just for peace of mind. The jackshaft bearing PTO side looks decent still but then I thought about changing it for peace of mind but figured if I get into that and have to remove the jackshaft maybe I would be best to do the drive bearings in the chaincase. I would imagine they are fine since they run in the oil bath but just curious what kind of mileage guys are changing the bearings out at or if anyone has seen the chaincase or jack shaft bearing fail. I know I have heard of the caliper bearing failing so thought I would replace it for sure.

I have done mine 8k on sled clutch side toast and was serviced last season chain side looked ok but signs of spinning on shaft. I replaced shaft, seal and good bearings not china junk that was in there. Other sled 11k did both bearings and seal signs of spinning but not to bad can reused shaft. Both sleds BOP Wedge.purchased from Canadian bearing were all Olin stock and seal from Yamaha was in stock as well if that helps.

I think it is a good idea I had to change out track on my Viper so I changed all the bearings and I'm up dating the top shaft all I got to say is be careful when you remove the old bearings because the shaft seals behind the bearings are a mo fo to replace.

I do agree I made a tool to press in seal and bearing on machine.

That is a good idea,do you have any pics of the tool you made. I'm waiting for another seal for the top shaft, I destroyed the one I was trying to install. I wonder if Cat or Yammie have a special tool you could buy to do this the correct way.

Is it possible to get the chaincase bearings out with out removing the chaincase from the sled and damaging the seals? I was hoping to get this all done in the summer but ended up having an operation so here I am trying to get everything done right as the snow starts to fly. Would love it if the chaincase and jack shaft bearing could wait until next year but don’t know if I want to push my luck. I have always greases the jack shaft and caliper bearing.

For the price of the bearings, if you have them in your hand, put a new one in. I changed my upper shaft and lower case bearings at 5k.

Ya I got mine out with no damage the only reason I changed is I figured I had to replace shaft so I just replaced it all.

Ya I think you can get the bearing out without wreaking the seal. I wasn't really worried about it to much cause I had a new one. Now I'm trying to figure out how to get the new in without destroying it. :(

I changed all 4 brgs the two on chaincase side i did without removing chaincase.
Once jackshaft and drive axle were out it was easy to pop them out with chaincase still in sled
The upper seal is the tricky pary

Ok i see what ya did there good thinking. I'm gonna put the seal in the freezer and heat the chain case with heat gun hopefully that will help. I think your on to something there kinda pressing it in instead of trying to tap in with a hammer.

Don’t hammer it in you will possibly cut seal edge we’re meets the case. That way I kinda showed you works really good and also put bear in same way. I hope this helps you out because I was in your shoes I did 2 winders like this worked out good. Keep me posted
