Anyone know what size the nut is on the end of the jackshaft that holds the top gear in place? any ideas on how to get it off? Im planning on welding a socket on a piece of pipe. I want to go from 24 to 22 in my attak and from 22-23 in my apex mtn. one guy told me it was a 36mm but he wasnt 100% sure.

Thanks

Thanks

He says "I'm sure a large adjustable wrench would work" although i remember trying this on my old rx1 with no luck maybe ill give it another try.

That's how I get it off. Helps to have someone to hold the clutch.

Yeah I just bought a reverse kit off of someone that failed to tell me that they used a big #*$&@ chisel and punch to remove that nut after they stripped it! :die

Of course, they neglected to tell me that when they sold the kit to me and shipped it. :o|

I went through the same thing a few weeks ago with my Vector, I asked here and got the info I needed. I got a big adjustable for the top gear nut and another on the drive shaft in the track, came loose no trouble.

Maybe ill be able to tell when i take the cover off but ill ask anyways... does the nut come off clockwise or counterclockwise?

Just went and check the one I made. It is a 36mm socket with a deep socket welded on. Then I opened up the inside with torches. This way I can still use a torque wrench to tighten the nut back up.

Call micro belmont they make a tool thats takes off that top nut.

I used a large channel locks to hold the nut while I had someone else turn the secondary clutch. The nut came right off without a scratch or and sign of stipping. This way worked good to because I was able to get a lot more leverage by turning the secondary. If you do it this way make sure you take your belt off to prevent spinning the engine the wrong way when loosening. Hope this helps.

I had my secondary off I placed a rag and then vise grips on the spine and let it bottom out and used channel lock pliers to take the bolt off. It came off easy almost too easy.

Tore the apex down today and installed my avid drivers and 23t top gear. Used a adjustable on the nut and put on a bar on the secondary it came off no problem i used an old secondary i had so i didn't care if i marked it up or not. Im gonna have to give mpi a call and get one of those tools it would be good to have forsure.
