ok, so i tried to remove the breather hose on top of the chain case so i could maneuver rear heat shield back in. when i pulled on the hose, everything went flying. found the spring and plunger, cap was still in hose. i am posting 3 pics, don't know how to do it so they show up automatically, don't see that option. first is the parts, second is with the cap installed where it goes, third is looking into breather without cap on. anyone seen this? is it supposed to come apart, what is the order of replacement, is all the parts there. i think it goes spring, plunger cap. sound right?? is it broke? can anyone see if there's pulls apart there? can't find a fiche...Thank You!

i was out putting the rollers in the clutch. put the breather back together. with it together, before installing hose, i could put a small diameter round punch into the breather and push plunger in and it would spring back, probably 1/4 to 3/16"? feels right. didn't really study hose routing but thinking it works on vacuum, therefore shouldn't come apart. with formed hose on it, it is held firmly in place. if anyone wants to volunteer to pull their hose and see if you can depress plunger? or pull the cap off easily? still haven't finished buttoning that side up.

So by removing the hose from that hose connection it all fell out springs and all went flying ? I'm just not getting it... Is there something we should do to avoid this happening ?

yes! exactly what happened. even though clamp was loose and beyond the ridge on tube when i tried to pull hose off it just fell apart. totally unexpected. after further working on it, it is the oil tank check valve($67.00) for roll over, not off of chain case, my bad. not the connection at the top of the oil tank, but other end of hose at the valve. my dealer was going to take one apart if his tech showed up but never got back to me. they are in the same boat as we are, no manuals or fiches etc yet, just the mountain sled fiche that you can find on the web, and corporate was closed for the holiday weekend. he said that it didn't show as "serviceable" with blow up of internals to replace, so it probably shouldn't have come apart. there is no sign of anything ever holding the cap end into the valve like a crimp, epoxy etc. it just sits in the recess. it is back together, don't think that it would just fall out riding as the hose holds it in place, but this journey is to be continued. i am going to take it apart clean it up and put some gasket sealer on it and put it back together. i will post the final word if i get it. update: after further thought no gasket sealer, because of tolerances would risk pushing some internally even if minor, don't want that. heading out now to clean and silicone crevice around the outside to halt any vacuum leaks then off for a spin.

Ok thanks, weird it's just held in with the pressure of the hose. I just had a thought,Would it be a good idea maybe to add a couple tie wraps around the valve housing to the hose connection when removing the hose as a safety measure ?

yes, that would help. siliconed the gap and rode it to test the clutches. i tried to loosen clamp and remove hose again before silicone and it wanted to just pull out again, hose sticks to tube enough that it doesn't just slide off. is it a defective valve? we are gonna find out next week i guess....

Thanks for the heads up, sucks that yours flew all over the place (I would of lost my #*$&@, or probably would of found it in my whitees lol ) anyways, I did the tie wrap thing just in case and removed the hose at the top of the oil tank, instead of at the valve and nothing flew around, phew! Put all back together and seems good.

got my new valve in the mail today. it does not come apart! original must have been defective.
Is this the valve for 66 bucks listed in babbitts fish and connects to the top of oil tank breather hose?
