Check under your fuse box...

Checked mined today and it was also rubbing. So tighten up zip tie also added a couple more and put velcro fuss on. Good find guys

Checked my 2019 yesterday and wires are rubbing! I wrapped with electrical tape

We had issues with my son's 2018 battery draining and not starting after sitting a few days. Would not take charge unless disconnected from sled. Dealer charged and tested battery, battery is good. Today it cranked a few times, then everything dead on sled. Fuse for battery blown, when replacing fuse saw arc under fuse box, one wire rubbed through on rivet. Repaired wire everything working again. Going to file rivet head a bit and cover with strip of thin rubber. More Arctic crap issues.

3m adhesive velcro (soft side) works well to cover plate under fuse box

Yes, another known problem. Everyone needs to address this as some sleds have had the whole harness burn up due to a major short.

Checked.my 19 at 2000km and wires were starting to wear!! Everyone should add something in between fuse box and mounting plate from new!! Not fun chasing electrical gremlins

My 2017 was fine, 11,000 kms. If I hadn't noticed the spark, would have taken much longer to find issue. Been having issues with the 2018 since last February. Lucky only one wire damaged

With all this talk about the relay/fuse box on Sidewinders, I thought I would mention the new 2020 "cold weather relays" coming in the new sleds. I ordered 2 four pin and 2 five pin relays to check them out. The 4 pin # 8MS-H2189-00-00 is shorter than previous sidewinder relays, thus thinking it is electronic and it appears to be a sealed as there is no seam at the top. The 5 pin # 8MS-H2185-00-00 looks the same but no seam around the top. I ordered two more of each to completely change them out, but Yamaha has back-ordered them until Jan 8th.

Dam, and I thought my pre-season maintenance and swap outs were done.

I shall surely check out my fuse block wiring after learning about this.

Checked mine yesterday. No rubbing of the wires but I see how it could happen over time. I added a piece of rubber sheet over the plate beneath the wires for peace of mind. We should start a thread which lists all of the items to check and/or upgrade on these sleds. Certainly are a lot of issues for such an expensive sled.

Jim
do you have a pic of your rubber sheet in place ?
I haven't looked at mine , does it just slide in position ?
