clutch fix info, update on page 2 ...

Tork:

No part numbers, unfortunately. It all came in a plastic zip-locked parts bag. It comes with 3 Buttons and 3 O-rings. you obviously only replace one orignal button per spider arm. The buttons are exactly the same as the original ones, but with a counterbore on the back side. The O-Ring looks like a standard Buna-N material. I will measure the parts up tonight and post some sketches/pics/etc.

Honestly, anyone can just counterbore a hole in their existing buttons and then buy the O-Rings from McMaster-Carr, MSC Industrial, Grainger, etc. The fix is simple, cheap and ingenious. I am surprised Yamaha is wasting so much time rolling it out. I am lucky that I am friends with my dealer's parts manager.

I'll probably do what you suggest and just bring my primary in to them so they can install them for me. I guess I have all summer to get this done!

The part number on the kits is 8ES-SLIDR-KT-00. Any dealer should be able to order them at this point through their parts department.

They just wanted to make sure it worked good :D
The cost of the parts looks to be pretty low, but they have to pay the dealers a big chunk of change for the labor  Lets say they end up doing 2000 units. That is going to start to approach a quarter of a million dollars

Thank you! ;)!

Here's my question:
If I go through the process of getting these parts to fix the noise that has been slowly bothering me more and more throughout the season....will this be a permanant fix? Or will the problem come back like the first fix?

I have waited to take my sled in for any warrenty work so I would have my sled for the whole season. No that it's prob over, I wanted to get my gage fixed/replaced(Fogged up once, left a big nasty foggy looking mark in the gage that does not go away) and this clutch noise thing.

I have a bad feeling that I will have nothing but trouble trying to get my sled worked on.....so I'm kinda dreading starting this process. :?

Well I called my yammie dealer today (Great Escapes in Traverse City Michigan) and they told me that the part number. 8ES-SLIDR-KT-00 isn't even in their system and they have had no else complain about the problem. How can this be? Every 120 HP 4 stroker I heard has this. I guess I'll call Kevin at Port Yamaha and see if he can get me this kit. This rattle is sooooo annoying!

gnip, I was one of the first to get that new clutch kit installed. I have put 3000 miles on my Vector since installed. At start it was really quiet but over 2000 miles it started to rattle but not as bad as it was. It did not worsen since. I'm not sure if it will be the final fix but at least it reduce that annoying clucking noise. I don't mind to replace the kit once a year if I keep riding that much. I have put on my sled so far 3500 miles and I'm not done yet. More snow are predicted this week. Get to love it.

NEW INFO

Special thanks to a great member who gave me this info and has given me permission to post it.

1. cost of the parts is $12.78 so as we already knew it is all labor which is the big problem

2. Yamaha only pays the dealer for 1/2 hour labor and it takes closer to 1&1/2 hours to do this. So they do in fact lose money doing this fix.

You guys that arent working with a dealer that is willing to go that extra mile, you are going to have a rougher time of it.

Try this if you have a problem.

Offer throwing in $25 to help sweeten the deal for them.

* only if you are skilled at doing this* offer to pull your clutch and reinstall it yourself so they dont have to do that part of it.

If that fails, nicely tell them that you are very well informed that other dealers are taking care of their customers on this issue. And that this will be a prime factor in your decision as to where you buy your next sled.

A dealer like Port Yamaha here in WI, besides being a sponsor here really understands the value of treating their customers well. I cant recommend them highly enough.

Well....I wish port could service my sled, cause it seems that they are in tune with snowmobilers more than other dealers....but they are on the other side of a big lake from me.....and they don't bring their service dept. with them to the Novi expo center show.....lol

Service Mgr at Yami Dealer in Eagle River WI said the original clutch fix wasn't working. Let's see if this one holds up!

Great info Tork....really appreciate it!

Guess I'll now have the "oppertunity" to see just what my dealer's made of.

The part number is not in the dealer system, but its is in the Yamaha parts web site. My dealer was able to locate one on the web and order it today.

RSVECTORFREAK you could try and go to Hackers in Houghton Lake, they have been a Yamaha dealer since they invented snow.
