Clutching for Turbo

Finally got my turbo on and ready for some trials this weekend. Will post my results. Only thing is finding sufficient snow or ice. Snow gods are slow this year.

Not sure were ya are goarge but the small lakes in muskoka and parrysound have over 8 inches now with about 2 inches of snow, Oxtongue is the best at the moment

turbo clutching

Does anyone have clutching setup info for deep snow/ hillclimb configurations? I'm setting up a Mountain Performance/Bender turbo on my RX-1 (and possibly installing my old Boondocker NOS as well to help with turbo lag...). Anyone have some baseline specs?? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Bender Turbo

Spray & Treewhacker are running Bender turbos in the Mtns. I am sur they would help.

I'm riding mostly trails andlakes in north central ontario.

Close to Algonquin Park. Call me in a month. Still have to get my clutching and studding figured out.

Got some good running in this wekend. I was spinning at 11,500 rpms + probibbly capped by the limiter. Wicked hole shots but only got to about 120mph. Tryed a 51 helix at 60degrees and brought the rpms down to around 11.000, even better hole shots but now i'm not hooking up at all. Probbibly need double the studs. Could only get up to about 105 mph on the speedo. I've ordered some new weights but with the issues going on with the hammertimes I think I'll waite. This weekend I will try to add some to the stock weights and play with that for a while. Has anyone tryed more weight on the stock arms yet??? Could use some help to start somewere. Does anyone have any good helex combos that are working well?? appreciate you help.

Get some heavy hitters with the tungsten washers and load them to 73 to 74 grams. I use a Dalton 58-44 helix with great results. Ihave also used a 61-46 and a 52-42 which both work also. I use the grn-grn-grn primary spring and the pink sec. spring. I think the belt slips too much with the silver. This will give you a general area to start. I'm at 550' elevation. Gearing is 25/38.

Get the heavy hitter weights with the tungsten washers & an advant-edge 51/43 helix. If you get that stuff e-mail me & I will get you close.

Sledhead goarge, we must be neibours if your close to the park, i hope to be testing the clutching with the turbo on the last weekend of the month, likly iether on oxtongue or dwight beach, maybe even earlier if i get it installed by then, vcrash

Try this on your Turbo RX-1: Stock weights with heavyest rivets in the holes, Primary spring: Blue-white-blue (Yamaha) helix: 53! secondary spring: stock (3-3) roller: 14,5mm. Tryed this on the MC-Express "front" Turbo with great results

Clutching

When you say 53 helix, do you mean a straight 53? Those weights laoded would be 78 grams, which might work with that profile. I would increase your twist to 6-1. It helps with the belt slip and backshifting. What rpm'e are you pulling ? That b-w-b spring is light at 45-111 kg. I am running HH's loaded to 57.1 in a quad with the yel-sil-yel with 14.5 rollers with a 58-44 Dalton, with pink set at 6-1. Pulls about 10,300 and up to a 135 mph qtr. Et is 10.1, so I am getting there.

Yes straight 53 helix (Dalton), but you may have to use another secondary spring, the stock spring was putting a little bit high rpm, the hauck silver spring will do the job for you.
this clutch combination was on a sled with camoplast 38mm paddle track mounted on, our main focus on this testing was to increase the acceleration, but we pulled it easely up to 220km/h.
