CR10ek plugs question

I have read where lots of people are switching to these plugs and are getting performance gains, I talked to the NGK rep and he informed me these plugs are 2mm longer than the stock plug and he doesn't recommend them for this engine as the added length could damage the engine...
So how are guys getting around the added length, maybe using a spacer, feedback please.

Also as an added question he posed, if you are going to use this plug for the added performance why wouldn't you pay 1.50 more per plug and get the iridium plug which according to him would have significant performance gains, with a much stronger spark.

These sleds don't foul plugs so the couple added dollars are negligible compared to the performance gains, anyone try them or the stock plugs in the iridium plug which has a designation added to the end of IX, in other words ck10eix or the stock with ix added ...

I would double check your NGK reps information. These specs are right from NGK and they also measure the exact same when using a calipers to compare. The iridium plugs showed 0 gain when on the dyno, that is why most don't use them.

The threads do not stick into the combustion chamger/cylinder head any further than the stock CR9E spark plugs.

CR9E specs:
10mm Thread
19mm (3/4") Reach
5/8" (16mm) Hex Size
Gasket Seat
Resistor
Solid Terminal
.032" (0.8mm) Gap

CR10EK Specs:
Multi-Ground Plug
10mm Thread
19mm (3/4") Reach
5/8" (16mm) Hex Size
Gasket Seat
Resistor
Projected Tip
Stud Terminal
Dual Ground Electrodes
.027" (0.7mm) Gap

They do have a projected tip which sticks into the combustion chamber further, but no part of the thread surface sticks any further into the combustion chamber. We have been using the CR10EK spark plugs since the summer of 2002 with no problems of engine damage. There is nothing to worry about.

Allen, if I read your post correctly...regap and run the 10's?

The CR10EK plugs are good for 1.5-2 hp. It's not much, but every little bit adds up.

There is a post on the four stroke nitrous/dyno forum using the cr10 plugs and the stock ones. It's stated those plugs give no increase in hp at all. I also asked a Yamaha Tech that is using c10's in his apex and he cant even tell any difference at all.

I installed the 10ek plugs in mine this year, along with Ulmer's K&N Filter kit, works good. 2 hp here, and another 3 to 5 hp there quickly adds up. It's not easy getting huge gains in performance on these sleds without adding Boost or a SC of some sort, and as Allen Ulmer already stated, every little bit helps. ;)!

It will not affect the tors at all. We have been using them for 6 years now with no issues with TORS.

yamahahaapex, that dyno test with the nitrous was done with 91 octane fuel which will not show any results with the colder CR10EK plugs. Run 87 octane and the CR10EK plugs and you will see 1.5-2 hp on the FX Nytro and 2-3 hp on the Apex.

Quick question regarding those cr10ek plugs. I recently purchased some CR9EIA-9 Laser Iridiums for my FX NYTRO RTX from my dealer. He told me these are the plugs guy's are buying for there 4 strokers. Am I gonna run into problems with these? Are they a good plug? Pros and cons compared to CR10EK? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks guy's.

ya most likley you won't have an issue but i had them in my rage and every once and a while my tors would act up then found that in my book before i sold it and took them out didnt do it anymore ( i know i didnt drive it much after thatbut still) and it says not to use anything but 9 in the nytro book and that could! not saying will happen just saying if anyone starts to have a problum with that and are puzzled and u got the 10's then maby thats it
