Just curious if anyone elses's dealer has elected to stop selling yamaha snowmobiles? I called my dealer about a 2011 apex he had and he told me he sent it back along with all his other Yamahas and he will no longer be dealing with them. My dealer said the high cost of the Yamahas has priced them out of the market. My dealer stated almost every person who came into his shop to buy a yamaha eneded up buying a Ski Doo 1200. My dealer has sold Yamaha since at least 1984. Kinda sucks as I now dont have a dealer to use.

With the cost of sleds they have to go with the ones they sell more of. Yamaha build some of the best sled out there but they cost the most.

Sounds like your dealer has some kind of an issue and is trying to make it look like Yamaha's fault. There is not that much difference in price and if you look at value it amazes me that Yamaha builds these sled's priced as close as they are. My dealer likes having Doo so the shop has something to do and that is a quote from the service manager. They have Yam,cat and Doo. Doo is number one in the shop, Cat two and then Yamaha. Spend on the sled or spend in the shop. I like to ride, Down time sucks!

I agreee about the down time, but two other shops near me who carry Yamaha have hinted at ending the realtionship as well.

This does NOT surprise me one bit, matter of fact, I anticipated it. Yamaha sleds have become ridiculously priced, this from a guy that can realistically afford any of them, but still chose to spend his money WISELY as retirement is on the horizon. To think it costs you over 10G's to buy a Vector is totally out of line and the prices on the Apex's is just stupid.
As stated in the title post, if I am buying a 4-stroke, I am seriously looking at the 1200 4-TEK now, maybe beef up my protection with an extended warranty, and be done with it. If they don't keep the pricing to 10 G's or less, they will eventually kill this sport and people will find other things to do. What has surprised me a bit is, I thought for sure one of the 4 remaining manufacturers would be belly up by now - presumably AC, but so far they are hanging tough in this recession. But I still say in the next couple of years somebody else is leaving the market.

LOL Yamaha over priced? 600 SDI HO, List for just pennie's under $12,000. 2012 Vector list for pennie's under $12,000 and a LTX just over $12,000. The base four tec is around 12 as well. I don't know what warranty Doo comes with but Yamaha had three yrs if preseasoned. The Yamaha will on all averages spend less down time and hold a better resale value especially as the mile's add up (fact). They are all over priced but for what you get in a Yamaha they are the better value.Fusion said:This does NOT surprise me one bit, matter of fact, I anticipated it. The Apex is not over priced when comparing to anything in it's class. I paid $11,800 and change out the door (tax, reg and all fee's) For my 2012 Apex. A sled that is still unmatched in technology after seven yrs. Spend wisely!
I agree with Kviper. They ARE all over priced, but I don't think that yami is any higher than the others, and for what you get and for resale, yami may be better.....definatly not any worse.

Agreed- Yamaha has dropped in Market Share, the reason for this can be debated until the cows come home, but IMO it has very little to do with cost.
After incentives they are all relatively close- none are a bargain and you will soon realize you have chosen the wrong sport if you don't want to spend money.

That is true, we pay LARGE compared to our American neighbors!
Not sure if the same thing is happening in the states as what seems to be happening here in Ont. Can?
We have recently lost a few great 5 star Yamaha dealers up this way and it has nothing to do with dealers getting out of the biz or dropping Yamaha, it has everything to do with a finance/ownership group named GE that is closing these places down.
I know very little about the inside workings of running a dealership but from what I understand, if GE doesn't see something they like, even though you have been in business a long long time and sell lots of product, they can and will shut you down.

EDIT: here is "one" article on it.

Yes, the Apex is expensive, but in the US an SE cost about $1500 dollars more than an XRS E tec. IMO Yamaha also offers better spring order incentives and deals on their sleds. Closing the gap more.
Market share and dealer support is down because of the product Yamaha offers if you ask me, not because of the cost.

And there is no comparison in an E-Tec to a 2012 Apex. Far less motor and the whole sled will not last half as long as an Apex. Put crank bearing's in at 4 K and by the time it needs bearing's again the chasis is very loose unless you baby the wiz out of it. As far as the Yamaha product is concerned the mistake Yamaha made was giving the Apex to us in the form they did in 06 and by the time every one else made an attempt at where Yamaha was we were all expecting major changes because four or five years had gone by. After the changes for 2011 the Apex is still likely the best all around sled ever built. After having Apex's since 06 when I try other sled's I still have the biggest smile on my face when I get back on my Apex.rindtj said:Yes, the Apex is expensive, but in the US an SE cost about $1500 dollars more than an XRS E tec. the market share thing makes me laugh,it wouldnt be hard for yamaha to gain market share, build something you can sell in the $7-$8000 range that competes with other manufactures, then you flood the market with these cheaper sleds, yamaha makes less money but they sell more cheap sleds wich results in lower resale value wich brings you like doo or poo, look at polaris atv's,no wonder they are #1 in sales, you can buy them so cheap its ridiculous
