I think this is mostly caused by particles sticking to the Magnets and as the shaft turns the particles rub against the cover.
Right. Mine looks similar but never broke any magnets so let it go. I believe those are ceramic magnets so they break pretty easily.

Allan is correct....it's the metal particles that attach themselves, build up and start to rub on the chaincase

So its not measured wrong? I was afraid to need shims between the chaincase bearing and shoulder drive shaft?
Must not be. As long as magnets are intact I wouldn’t worry about it.So its not measured wrong? I was afraid to need shims between the chaincase bearing and shoulder drive shaft?

Has anyone ever seen the magnets actually chew a hole in the cover ?

This is why I think it's the best plan to remove the cover every year when changing the fluid. Clean the magnet off and wipe the case out. Instead of sucking the fluid out.Allan is correct....it's the metal particles that attach themselves, build up and start to rub on the chaincase
Nope. Never.Has anyone ever seen the magnets actually chew a hole in the cover ?

Yup totally normal...little shreds of metal build up and rub on cover due to tight tolerance in chain case. Wont harm a thing just change oil often no need to totally disassemble clean to change oil. "per belle plaine motorsports" unless its to replace gears and chain/ tensioner.
If it ain't broke no need to disassemble.
Just loosen all chain case bolts let oil drain re-tighten and add oil thru reverse actuator hole..ps add extra so the whole window is covered. The more the lube the better.

We run very high miles 6-10 thousand miles a year. My chain case was a mess, and there was a tun of metal on the magnets. Needs to be cleaned sometime.Yup totally normal...little shreds of metal build up and rub on cover due to tight tolerance in chain case. Atleast for me anyway.

Yes thats probably right on for higher mileage sleds per year. But for just General maintenance purposes you do not need to disassemble and clean it every time you change the oil.
The magnets will allways have metal on them. 250 to 500 miles after you change it.A good cleaning and inspection every 3 to 5 thousand miles Is all thats needed. Obviously chain tension and oil maintenance is the key.

I drive an arctic cat M7000, and mine actually made a hole in the chaincase lid as pictured UP in the thread. The first thing that happened was that the speedometer sensor fell off. When i was going to put it in place i noticed the chaincase lid had a hole. Ive Just recieved my New chaincase lid, but havet installed it yet, so i havent opened the chaincase to check what it looks like from the inside. Having trouble posting a picture from my Phone of what the outside damage looks like. I Will try to upload.
