Dynoed a stock Attack today!

so instead i bought a 138 hp machine,so either some dyno's are lying,or #'s are being deflated so when they bring a product out they can inflate the #'s and say their product increased the hp.. this much.....not a bash to anyone but, numerous dyno's showed 150,so they are wrong...

Not necessarily RED800. They just maybe had mineshaft weather conditions that day. Look, fact is this... does your sled beat your buddies across the lake? If it does cool! If not time to dynotune it and try to extract more power from the engine. You know you buddy will be doing it if you beat him!

So now, you take the sled to the dyno shop of your choice. It comes in low. WHO CARES? What is important is when you make a change, did the number increase or decrease?

Freddie,

if you need another Apex let me know I will donate mine for a couple of weeks

Will do AIRWOLF. E-mail me at:

KliesECP@sbcglobal.net so I have your e-mail on file. Also give me your telephone number please. Make sure to put something in the subject line that will catch my eye so I don't delete it.

Fellas,

dynos are a complicated subject, but it is not something you need to get so worked up about. I don't know many dynos that run the same.
But a simple principle that was told to me when I started learning about them is repeatability.
If you are able to have consistant repeatable numbers, then you are able to tell if you make progress.
Does it really matter if 1 guy has 150hp and the other guy shows 138hp? Now they both do 10 runs and the first guy shows numbers that range from 150 up to 160 and down to 140, I would wonder what's going on with him as long as all those runs were in the same conditions in the same day. If he has repeatable conditions and his dyno is correct then his numbers should be repeatable. Now say the second guy has 10 runs in the same repeatable conditions and he shows 10 hp numbers all at a range of 137.8 to 138.2. His numbers are a lot more consistant, a little more trust worthy. It doesn't mean that is what the motor has for HP I guess, just what that dyno says on that day.
Freddies dyno is much different than all dynos out there making runs on sleds. Even the factories don't run a dyno like Freddie, and therefore they are going to show different numbers than what he shows. If we all had say a superflow 901, Freddie, Dynotech, Bikeman, Speedwerx, Hauck, Bender, White Knuckle, Yamaha, Arctic, Polaris, Ski-Doo ect.... then when everyone puts out a stock number, they should all be within a acceptable range or say 5 horse? I don't think it's out of this world to see stock motors vary that much, but I'd put money on it that the numbers would be more like within 1 horse of each other.

Don't get so worked up about it until you step back and realize that different equipment will give different nubmers. Instead ask Freddie, and he will tell you that the first run was X number and the 10th run was within .1 of X number and you know he ain't bullshittin you, which I assure you Freddie is no Bullshitter.!!

I agree..

Now back to the subject at hand... Lets find a way to squeez another 10 hp out of the apex.. WOOO HOO!

Hey guys, like Freddy stated, it doesn't really matter what the base line is it's what you can gain from there.
We did get 150.1HP on our best runs with a stk Apex (average runs where 149's) but our Dyno uses the weather station to correct to std atmosperic conditions. So as long as your air/fuel ratio is good it will show the same hp on a 30 deg, low pressure, high humidity day as a -20deg, high pressure, low humidity day.
I think the biggest gain in the Apex is not the extra few HP but in the lower gear reduction at the clutch, 1:.811 instead of the 1:.838 as in the RX-1.
PS, Supertuner, Hauck have some TFI's if we haven't gotten them all.

Hey Welt, we are at 178HP now, wait untill Fred gets going!!
Ray

What mods have netted you 178hp??? Please share!!

Having one of Dynoray's strong RX-1 motors (175 hp correct Ray??), his Apex probably has head porting & a set of cams!!

Ray... thanks for chiming in on the subject. The latest generation of TFI from Dobeck has the ability to add and subtract fuel. What I have learned by looking at the graphs is that there are rich areas of the curve as well as lean areas of the curve. I need the ability to add and subtract fuel for these offending areas.

if u guys find some add on and go goodies, post it.....i wanna hear some more on the gear ratio add ons...

Hey guys

.02 cents here. I have a turbo honda i make 300whp at 18psi thats on a nice mild day. Boom u hit a bit of hot weather u make 275 if ur lucky. Of switch to a dynopack bam im making 320hp.

Dynos are the worst things u can make all the power u want they can tell ur car or sled makes millions of horseppower but if u can not drive it or put it to the ashpahalt or snow its a waste.

Dynos are for tunning u get ur base numbers as stated 138hp sure u may see other shops getting 145 to 150 but atmosipher pressure, elevation, temp, humidity all play factors. take that same sled from a 8,000 elevation to a 400 ft elevation it will make more power.

For all u guys bitching and wineing that ur sled does not make its power. The motor makes power just different all the time.

Another example when the SRT 4 neon came out chrysler claimed 240hp at the crank. We bolted one down from the dealer and we put down 255WHP thats at the wheel. Then this same car went from a mustang dyno to a dynopack and made 270. thats at the wheel so u take driveline lose and ur up to what 300-320 crank hp. but it is only suppose to be 240 :)

Good work on the dynoing of the apex more info when u get the box in
