I asked them about there kits and here is there reply!

We are a full line Yamaha Research and development shop and dealer. Our motors, clutches and kits are in Yamaha's cross country sleds and oval race sleds.

You cannot Dyno a Ram Air intake, you have to test real world on the ground. We worked with several different kit designs and when testing this one from stock sled RTX to installing Ram Air, RPM pull went up by 300 to 600 RPM's, in mid through top end. This would translate into a 3-6 HP increase. You need to ride the sled with the Ram Air on so the fuel calibration can adjust to the increased air flow. Everyone who has purchased the Ram Air kit Has been very happy with the results and look. 117 MPH in 1000 ft after install

I have been happy with it so far. The cold air induction is really just removing the blocker platefrom the frame in the front storage area, and installing a hair net type material over the lower hood inlet.

But hey, maybe the next guy won't be happy with it. Kind of like a aftermarket clucth. lol

Ok did you buy both kits, and did you buy it from fix,and would i have to remove mt nose bag in order for the kit to work.. Looks like fix has a cheap version listed in the 30 dollar bracket and the bigger unit listed at 299 bucks but he saids you can use both at the same time for best results,so what would you reccomend the complete kit, both parts??? LaLaLa

I bought both kits from fix. I don't think that the cold air induction would work with the front bag IMHO. The Ram air kit looks like a stock air box cover with the ridged areas removed (cut out) and some plastic grating added along with the hair net type material.
The $299.00 is the ram air, the $30.00 is the cold air induction.

If a guy had the hairnet material, it would be a easy self made project IMHO. But that being said it seems to work, and I am happy so far. It takes a few runs for the engine (fuel syst) to learn the new air fuel mix.

Does it say anyting in the directions about not running in deep powder or in a lot of snow dust. If all that is betweeen the intake is a screen and a peice of hairnet material it would seem easy for snow/water to enter the engine.

FYI

Apex EFI only takes into consideration manifold vacuum at LOWER (under half) throttle positions, therefore it estimates injection volume from manifold vacuum and engine revolutions.

At HIGHER throttle positions (approx half to WOT) the EFI system estimates injection volume from throttle position and engine revolution NOT manifold vacuum. Therefore if actual vacuum is changed by filters or RAM air, injection volume is not changed.

For example a automotive system measures intake air flow rate directly, so that type of system accepts modifications, it will adjust injection volume based on manifold vacuum. The Apex system does not "learn" or "adjust" injection volume to modifications.

So be cautious to HP claims by only modifying the intake.

He told me they have sold several cold air kits and ram air to guys in Alaska, Wy and some to the east coast for mountain riding. The material is water resistant and does not allow the snow down in. I was up on the fire lanes this past weekend and the snow actually repelled off. Checking the inserts on the ram air they are a sturdy metal grate cut to form. The Kit is well put togeather in my opinion, and does not look cheesie .

I had a RX1 prior and had a Air pod kit and you get that sweet sound, the Ram air also gives you a bit more of a racier sound. My final comment on this thing is there are guys on here that say it cannot work, fine that is your option but there are guys on here that have bought it just like I did and we are very happy with it and have indicated it does work. At least we purchased it and can say one way or the other. We tried to be infomative and it seems like everyone is bent up on putting everything down. I was skeptical to as with anything that first comes out but I'm happy with the purchase. I also purchased his performance wheel Kit, This is well built and much better than the marginal snow wheel kit that was available prior by Yamaha

i just installed my new Ram air kit,, looks ok,, what it did it made my sled pull harder in top end,,, im about 2 sleds lenght ahead of my buddies,, theonly,, of course not evrything is perfect,,,,, the noise level is VERY VERY high,, i did notice that my Hauck pipe is much noisire to my ears,, but will see how i handle it after a days riding,,, But so far tumbs up to it,,, oh by the way i had to add a couple of grams in my clutch,, back at 10500,,,

I have used mine for 1,000 miles now. It does allow the machine to rev to 11,200 rpm. So some clutch weight is needed. I saw an additional 6 mph on top end as compaired to the stock box. But is LOUD, so LOUD that I have removed it from the sled. I enjoy the quiet smooth for stroke blend. But make no mistake about it guys, it does work. I ran Sat withit still on the sled, then sun without. It is just too loud for me (but then I don't like loud pipes either).

If a fellow site member wants one I will sell mine for $175.00 for both kits.
