Engine builders, oil system priming

Well maxdlx was just over (thanks paul!)

We tried everything and nothing worked. It appears the big black return line is blocked or something, we tried blowing air into it and it would not let it go back in the motor it just spit the pressurized air back out, hopefully its supposed to do that.

We tried a shop vac as suction on that line and nothing. That line is dry,

However we pulled the valve cover plug out and its spitting oil as it runs, so the top end is lubed and I think the engine is as well. All the pressurizing we did we lowered the oil in the tank a little bit as its now below the top of the oil temp sender on the dip stick. Still nothing coming out, no leaks, were both baffled.

More help please! Thanks guys!

Are you sure that you have the two larger hoses that come from the oil tank on the right fittings down in front of the motor. One hose is black and the other is grey and if they are backwards you will have problems like you describe. I did it once and that's what happened, Ken.

Kinger needs to get a new avitar pic up when he gets this figured out. He did some sweet updates. Maxdlx

Here is a picture of when I removed it, I installed it the same way and I remember I double checked it and I remeber thinking they were different size hose and it would be hard to cross them. I may take apart in the intake system again and see if I can get back in there to make triple sure. All my time was working on it late at night after a 12 hr day so I coudl have still screwed it up. Thanks

Thanks wheelie I just took it apart and it is connected as in the picture pheww :drink:

I cannot find that bleed bolt anywhere near the back of the head but I did find this thing protruding out the front side of the head on the clutch side looks like a possible bleed bolt?

Do teh RX's have a oil pressure sensor? I don't remember un-hooking and re-hooking one up?

Thanks guys I'm really baffled why my return line coudl be completely plugged no air can get in when I tried to pressurize (i know not the right side to try but I'm desperate for something to give way here) it it held pressure and spit it right back at me when I released the air hose. I am using about 5 psi to not hurt too many things.

Only other thing Paul thought of was maybe when yamaha swapped my waterpump they locked the shaft from the little cam like thing on the mag side? Anybody familar with that thing? I did see it circulate once for about a second and it hasen't since. Thanks!

That's the chain tensioner above the crank case breather. The bolt you are looking for is on the back side of the head beside one of the exhaust outlets.

Is there a checkvalve in that line? Might be the reason the air couldn't get thru. Could be stuck from too much air pressure from your efforts to prime. Don't KNOW anything about this, just guessing.

We couldn't get it to suck oil out either. We put the shop vac on the return hose and tried to suck oil out like sugessted. This is truely baffleing . Maxdlx

I suppose that bolt is impossible to reach when the tank is installed? Both Paul and I couldn't see a thing in there unless its under the heat shield that covers the flex pipes. IN which case I will need to remove the gas tank to reach that, those two bolts way in the rear are impossible to get to with the tank installed.

Thanks guys I really appreciate I'm at the end of my rope!

Sorry you got the right pic this time of the bleed bolt.

I wonder if you take the bolt out of the sheild on that side, if you can pry it up enough to get to the bleed screw. I sure hope your dealer didn't put a plug down the oil tube to stop oil leaking, and forgot to take it back out. I sure wish you lived closer, I hate these kind of deals. Keep after it, you'll get it. Maxdlx

I pulled the bolt for that heat shield and it will not pry up at all, it actually wants to go down more then up. I'll call them on Monday and talk with him. I'm almost wishing it was something definitive so I can get it fixed, not knowing is almost worse then knowing I have to pull it our again! (Ok maybe not...)
