I m in the process of changing the donuts. I m at the donuts but haven t removed the muffler cover barrier. Is it possible to change out the donuts without removing tha aluminum cover (busting rivets). Seems like if I remove the muffler mount bolts and y-pipe mount bolts, I should be a able to back the entire exhaust from there. I know I ve seen other similar topics, requesting to remove that mffler guard. If not I ll bust the rivets out.

Yes. I just did my donuts this past weekend. Remove the two allen bracket bolts and pull the header back as far as possble.
Remove the head pipe bolts from the head. That should give you enough room to fanagle the head pipes out and install the donuts. It's a tight fit but do-able.
3200 miles on my donuts. Right on schedule for replacement. They weren't worn all the way through but getting there.
I think copper donuts will be next.

You can do it without removing the manifold bolts. Loosen exhaust, slide back as far as you can, then compress the accordion, and you can finagle the new donuts in place. Probably need a helper to do it this way though.
