At least put on a helmet!
well, they are for real. all reports are ringing true. got the real first ride in. yesterday was just 15mph for a lap around work. 65 miles around the block. kept varying speed, one cool down half way, jumped on it 3 times from cruise, 86 87 97, real quick short runs, packed dirt roads with about 4-8 inches of powder and drift, one field run but still soft underneath 18" of snow, very smooth engine at cruising speeds, super smooth ride too, bumps non existent, blew my registration sticker off. it reminded me of the new 800 renegade they gave me as a loaner last year as far as seating position. whiteout snowing now so couldn't do much more for any speed, deer jumping out too. weight is not even noticeable. gets to speed very quickly, life is good.

Ken,now that you have a clutch kit in the winder and some miles on it,how does it compare to your 850,i remember early on that the doo was either beating it,or side by side with it on plowed road, what was the best gps speed on either sled on 1/2 rip?

Took mine out on 7/8 inches of powder and wow! Need a better base as I was spinning so bad with no studs. I rode on someone else's tracks and when I got on it you really can feel the transfer better than my Viper with studs and revalved shocks. The skis would come up real easy than I would loose traction. Tried going down my test road but I couldn't keep the sled straight. I did see 85 mph in no time at all. Not going to risk it. Got my tunnel protectors installed now I am orderering studs. Not sure how anybody can ride without studs with this much power. Going to be a fun season!!!

My first ride today, feels like my viper except the power is incredible. Sure can get yourself in trouble quick if your not careful. I removed the blocks and sled seems to be transferring well with the 1.75 track. Loosened off the front springs and stiffened up the centre shock. Steering feels light but the real test will come once the trails are hard and packed. Hoping to get it on rails like I had my nytro and viper. Will be running the lake tomorrow so Im anxious to open her up and see what she can do.

Dont take this the wrong way guys... But it seems the yamaha guys aren't used to turbo power. Sure there some guys here with fast turbo sleds apex and vipers etc... I'm not talking about them. But many of the new Sidewinder owners seem to come from n/a sleds like the viper and apex.
While the cat guys are coming from the 1100 turbo which is a
Beast tuned. The 1100 turbo guys always want more they are already asking for 270hp plus as that is what the 1100 can do on top quality pump gas (94 Oct )

Point is you'll get used to it and get bored I'm sure. To me the stock sleds feel slow. But dont listen to me I drive a 600hp outlaw and 340hp improve turbo race sleds lol those 2 rockets tend to numb the feelings.

But you guys are correct that turbo sleds are sneaky fast. Be careful on first rides take it easy and get used to it first.

Well said and great advice!!

On hard packed straights my sidewinder gets up to speed quick but in loose snow on the trail my stock 2014 apex is dead even on top end. Both sleds are stock with no studs.

Even on grass when we were doing our last grass drag event and I was fully studded with 4 per bar or 192 1.465,s it was spinning like crazy, until I relaxed the front straps to stock pos. with blocks out in rear on my LTX-LE 1.25 x137 track.

It wont be for long, set up the winder and get it clutched and miles on it,and it wont matter if you are in two feet of powder,it will walk a none turbo apex.

Yes ben you said beast tuned,i remember when I first took my 13 procross lxr around my dealers big tata fields the day I picked it up,i thought it was an absolute turd compared to any of my none turboed apex sleds, and could not wait till Phil Stanley installed your stage 4 v-19 program and turboforce muffler, than we had a beast, well after the stuck primary clutch cover, and the first couple blown belts, but it was a beast on map 2 and 3 I never could run mapr 4 c-16 and shimmed wastegate to see how quickly 315 hp could snap a belt, sense on map 1 it would snap them suckers like pop cyckles, lol one thing for sure your programs do work as promised ben,do you remember mine,i had to have you reflash mine back to stock, sense cat don't care was coming out to look at mine, because it had bad leak down on rings after the 2nd year,at 2600 miles, and they ended up shoving there junk sled up my tail, stating I had a muffler TD muffler that they found over in the corner at my dealer ship, where they had it tore down to crank, and you could clearly see the warpped cylinders from heat and lack of coolant flow,pricks..so back onto Yamaha again on an ape xtx than on a new 2017 ltx-le this year, but oopps stuck throttle put me into this big old tree in my back yard,so back to waiting on another company for my sleds fate..ouch!
