flat spot on driven roller

IM wondering if the rough of the helix COMBINDED with belt dust is stopping the roller TOO SOFT momentarily and thereby causing the flat spot..

one pic is stock with pretty much zero miles...second is ramps polishedView attachment 124287 View attachment 124288

I would think the rough cast surface would grab the roller making it roll....instead of possibly sliding on polished surface.

This is ALOT like 2012 Cats secondary with two rollers(junk). Guys were actually breaking them or snapping them(rollers).. Then cat comes with a different roller actually had a recall on the rollers I think. Many things have to be in there place just so with these torsional secondary's.. and ALL THREE rollers need to be touching IMO.

from the friction ...like sandpaper? I hope the smooth like glass is a better option...it always worked well on the button clutchs in the past...

Buttons....yes,...less friction the better so polishing with new buttons is awesome. But you want the rollers to roll....not slide on the smooth surface.

I agree

Ever think it could be possible for the rollers to have dent from slamming into helix? I know that will take out a button real quick and sometimes can't really be avoided such as a hard braking then accelerating incident.

Yup. Also the Yamaha rollers are pretty narrow. Just pulled mine tonight. They seem very light weight material. I had like 2-3 small flat spots on each. A fair amount of side to side slop also. BUT you do want a little. I have Cat ones going in. I have three older ones I put in to compare. New ones might be here tomorrow.

Checked My clutch last night and after 500 miles this is the result!

Okay excellent pic! That is wear not a dent. Roller was not rolling but sliding without a doubt. Can see the lines. Now question is did a dent in roller prevent it from rolling resulting in that? Safe to say they are too soft either way.

Definitely to soft it might as well be a button clutch at this point. I will be putting on s button clutch from my Viper to test as I don't want to run it like it is until I get s roller replacement.

If all 3 get flat, which seems inevitable, then they would end up on the flat spots not only making these rollers essentially "buttons" , but also changing belt tension. Were not talking guys with 3000 miles here, were talking less than 500 miles. Hell, I put 500 miles on in my dreams last night, now i have to change buttons? stevewithocd changing parts on sled with less than 500 miles= not happy stevewithocd...

Steel Helix and Cam Followers like Aaen has for old secondary last forever. I am sure Yamaha or aftermarket will find a solution quickly. Nothing out yet Steve.

steve, probably need to change more than your "buttons" if you did 500 in your dreams, just sayin, go back to dreamin and take just you and the swedish girls snowmobile race team on the trip, other buttons will quickly replace thoughts of clutch buttons. like the time we were in the warming shack and they all had to get nekked to dry their gear after playin in 4' of fresh powder all day.....oh my, i'll be right back....
