Guys w/studs?

View attachment 124917 Will this set-up be an issue?
we have same sled, glad to see you got some miles in. i figured woody wouldn't sell a template for something that would cause a problem. hope i'm right for once. if not, she'll let me know. i did the 96, similar pattern. i probably should have done 144. haven't got many miles on it yet.

96 with this sled is a coctail for disaster....regardless of the stud pattern...and no...woodys and other stud makers dont know of the header vent louver

SJ am I going to have an interference issue with the louver using Woody's pattern and stud shown in my earlier post? My sled is a STX-DX 137 and comes with a 1.6" cobra track (1.5"lug).

looking at the diagram and photo you supplied...it shows a .375" penetration....the protection is right at .600-.625" range...so you are left with approx .250" of room before hitting....from reports most are not hitting with that penetration...but IMHO it is still possible to hit...a tight track and a suspension not bottoming out are two factors...but so could grabbing a handful of brake and hitting a bump at the same time!

in addition...the pattern doesnt take account for the center rear heat exchanger protector...

so to me ..you MIGHT be okay with the penetration you show....personally I dont care who does what...but im not shredding that vent and possibly voiding my headers warranty......

the pattern isnt the best either necessarily with the two studs ending right in the middle...they might hit that protector and might not..I think the pattern could be modified to stay out of the center 3.5" and still work the layout in general....some masking tape and a ruler and a hole punch and rework the template

I checked mine today and no issue so far...knock on wood! 144 1.4" extreme max up the middle woody pattern.400 miles
I run 1.456 exstreem max 4 per bar all near rails for best peneatration,no problems in 9 miles lol,oh ya one problem, big old tree lol he he no number of studs will help that.

Camoplast put out a bulletin recommending not studding the outside?

Way too late for me to worry about that. I'm running what I got.

Camoplast put out a bulletin recommending not studding the outside?
No. The bulletin said to avoid the center and also directly under the side of each tunnel protectors. Sorry, I can't explain better. They had a diagram on the bulletin. If you have the tunnelprotectors installed, you will see what I mean. The edges of the protectors sit low.

I took a look today after my last ride where I bottomed a cpl times. My 1.325 studs did put a cpl small scratches on the center protector. About the front cpl inches of the protector. So Yes if you stud in the center even with 1.325's will hit the protector if you bottom.

Who's Pattern? I didn't think anyone put studs in the middle...

I would love to know why they cut louvers into this front tunnel,it weakens it,and does nothing for cooling off anything,oh it did make our job a tad bit easier, to portorpower thru the top to, get to the hidden bolts, behind the inner chaincase out.

It was a woody's pattern. I don't know the exact one. Had a friend do it that has been studding tracks for yearsssss. All I can tell you was it was 2.86 pitch and had A and B holes. If I think of it tomorrow I will snap a pic of the track.

I'm still waiting for my 1.5 warthogs, 144 down the middle. Protectors Instaled. U guys think it will hit ?? With this patern ??? Please someone chime in before I start drilling. Sj I thought u said in an earlier thread 1.375 useless and go with 1.62 studs ??

don't know if our 1.6 tracks are different underneath than the others. when i installed, i did modify template slightly. stayed at 96 to avoid push. studied it very good before i drilled. when trying to stay out of the center completely, studs would have ended up hitting wheels somewhere. i did not want constant pressure and beating on all of the bearings etc, or to put a stud that maybe partially hit a wheel instead of being centered over it. the outside wheels that are easy to access and change are the only wheels affected now, and probably the most forgiving. there are large nubs on the track underside also that present an issue with placement.
