Well!!!! I guess we will have to see if ski-doo brings out the 1200 HO with 150-160hp.
I watched the video on the Yamaha Canada site and I had to laugh when referring to the power output. He talks about adding more bottom end and midrange and a little on top end. They talked about building a lake racer vs the trail sled. Why can't they build both? So far seems like a let down.... Still 150hp with the same weight.... To me this sled should have been released in 08, not 2011....

Very well might be, but for $15,000 I would expect it to make snow for itself to drive on so one could get $15,000 worth of use out of it.
Just think how much it would have cost with a turbo??? I just wonder why most of the people who know a brother of a brother in law that has all this inside info at Yamaha didn't tell everyone so they didn't get their hopes up? I for one think it will be a great sled from what the reviews have said from the people that have rode it.

I don't disagree that it is a refined sled. But one must balance that with price. $15,000 is out of line. Raw materials prices are below 2008 levels so this is unjustifiable. They should have spent less on the redesigned engine and exhaust components, and added a super charger. The difference in the watercraft world betweent the FX HO and FZR is under $1,500 so don't tell me Yamaha couldn't have done the same to this for the 2,500 price increase we saw this year. AND you would have 40-50 more ponies not 7-8.

That is why they got people to ride it to see how much they improved the ride and handling, which they have. I was not an Apex fan before as it felt too small to me (6'2"), way too much front end roll even with a wide front end, and a rear suspension that was not progressive enough
When I rode the 2011, I was really impressed by the chasis/suspension, not so thrilled by the engine. It felt a little Faster but not that impressive. It needs more torque. It's more than adequate for trails and is very entertaining, but get it on a lake in some snow and just like any other 4 stroke they fall flat on there face as not enough high rpm torque.
If I get one it will have a Yamacharger or MPI Super.
Yammie better hope Skidoo doesn't put a Super on the 1200 this year.
Although even if Doo does I'm not sure I would get one as I was that impressed by the 2011 Apex chasis and the EPS. You can always add power to anything. Getting it to ride and handle the way you want is the real trick and on this I think Yammie hit a home run.
It's the best chasis I've ever put miles on, on the trail, and I've had or tried almost everything out there in the last ten years, except for Polaris.

Disappointing. I like all the changes and they do make sense, but to stay in the 150hp class after no changes for years is sad. I expected either a new Apex in the 170hp class, or a new Apex in a Nytro-style chassis in the 150hp class but lighter. I loved the pull of my '07 Apex RTX far better than my '09 Nytro XTX, but I prefer the handling of the Nytro way more. I was really hoping Yamaha would bring these two designs together with a bigger HP Nytro-styled sled. Too bad.

What do you think a 1200 DOO is going to feel like with EPS. They already have EPS on their ATV's. Plus they already have their handling figured out. After buying 2 new Yamaha sleds and 2 new Yamaha ATV's since 2006, I think my next sled will not be a Yamaha.
