I decided to take the cover off my airbox to wipe it down cause it was dirty when i realized that there was some oil in the foam. There was not enougih to soak through to the other side but it was oily. That is the best way to clan out the foam and some of the plastic in the airbox?
Thanks

I've been meaning to clean my airbox foam as well. However, after moving the tabs that holds the foam in, I couldn't get plastic piece that holds in the foam out of the front of the airbox. What's the trick? Sorry to hijack your thread Yamahas, but I figured I'd ask incase you run into the same issue.

I also tried taking the filter out to clean it and I think you have to take the headlight unit out to do so.
I simply wiped it with a rag and figured I would take the whole front appart during the off season.

I had the airbox out when I was trying to remove the plastic piece that holds in the foam and I still couldn't get it out. The only way I could see is that it has to come out the top of the airbox? Anybody have the solution for us?

you just pull the plastic piece and then the filter out.

Does the plastic piece come completely out of the airbox or do you just lift it up and remove the foam from the underneath?
It does come out with a little persuasion /slight bending.Taking the cover seal off helps a little. But just taking the foam out is all that really needs to be done.Clean the foam with gas and put it back in dry.Take a good look at the tabs that hold the screen on.There was a bulletin on those falling out and getting sucked in motor.Supposed to be washers on bottom of the rivets holding tab on.Part of snow update I believe.Paper towels suck up any oil in there.Little oil doesnt hurt since it catches some dust before going in motor.

So would you want to clean it and then hit it with a light spray of Maxima FFT (foam filter treatment) or other offroad air filter oil?
You could but not really necessary. When new they are dry.

so i would just pour gas on it? do i even need to clean it since there wasent even enough oil to reach the other side of the filter?
Wear gloves and put a little gas on it and squeeze it out.

Or even some hot soapy water. Something like sunlight that is a grease cutter.
