I'm thinking about a sidewinder. I agree. Nothing beats the sound of 4 in a row. The tripple dose sound crappy but maybe the turbo will change that if you can get a little turbo whistle from the exhaust. And maybe an exhaust upgrade. I haven't sat on one yet that will be one deciding factor however as much as I like the exhaust out the back of an apex it kinda sucks if you wanna put a bag or some sort of storage back there. And I think if I got a sidewinder I would keep my apex to fall back on especially if they phase them out in a few years. The other draw back is price. For me it's about getting the "top of the line" with any vehicle I got. Kinda sucks that it's gonna be another 20k$ sled but it is what it is for new technology. I won't be jumping the gun and claiming one of the first ones in the province like I have done before ( never good to get the first one, I've learned that) but I will be looking into them. Only problem is. The apex is a little to much machine for the wife who's just starting out. Needs a block behind the throttle lol

I wouldn't touch one until it has been out at least one season IMO. Cat came out with the Turbo Suzuki in the Procross in 2012. They did not figure out how to keep that machine from blowing belts until the 2016 sleds came out. Any manufacturing flaws or poor build quality from TRF is going to be magnified with a 180 HP 3 holer under the hood.

I'm thinking the APEX king of the hill is done, however not if I add a turbo.

umm sasquatch!!!the apex xtx will not touch the new sidewinder, come on now i know you love the apex as do i but its not king anymore!!
Really? In the real world I've seen otherwise! Don't get hung up on hp, lot more going on then that. Cat chassis is hard on hp. Also don't confuse quicker with faster.

Not sure about the seat comfort on the SW. I tried a SkiDoo 1200 4 stroke and I my butt would hit the hard plastic in the back were my Attak won't do that. I am tall and need to stretch out due to knees, etc. Hard to ride way forward.
Secret to the bad knees on a Doo is buy the flat two up seat. Its longer a you can stretch out on it.
I wanted to buy 2017 Apex xtx. But today my dealer told me that they don't sell 2017 Apex in Norway. I can still buy a 2016. That is the latest model i can get here in NorwayNope, wait for 50th Anniversary sled. Praying for the 4 holer engine in some fashion to replace the Apex. Happy to see they still offer two Apex's for 2017. That tells me the 4 holer will be back with a vengeance in 2018. Maybe in an all new Yamaha chassis!? Haha Fingers crossed

I don't like the sound of the Viper either , cause iam spoiled by the 4 cylinder Genesis , but apparently the new 3holer sounds much different than the 1049 .Not a fan of the three banger. Sounds a bit like a tractor, For now I'll stick with my four banger. Cat chassis sucks up hp it won't be much faster if any then the Apex XTX. In the middle it will quicker but on top not so much.
The Cat twin turbo was 180hp and quicker but not faster!

I'm going for it! I don't like first year anythings also, but this is hardly new. Yamaha has had this chassis 3 years & Cat for 6ish. The motor was developed over 5 years ago. Also i happen to have a buyer for mine & happen to have cash this year. Soo here's my money Yamaha...

As Cat and Yamaha are the same sleds if I had to buy a hairdryer powered Sled the ZR looks nice and the T-Cat is my second choice just cause of the name. Both way over 20,000 with tax!

My Apex is getting a little long in the tooth for me and I am in the market for a new sled this year, but the Sidewinder doesn't interest me. I realize that it will be a great engine, but it's still shoehorned in the Arctic Cat chassis. I was really hoping for a new better balanced light weight chassis, which is what Yamaha needs for a bigger chunk of the market. The Sidewinder will bring in new buyers, but not that many IMO.

For those who think this sidewinder is going to be a rocket ship, I will believe it when I see it as the current MPI Turboed Vipers are still slower top end than the Apex, lol!! They cannot seem to get good speed out of them!

Been waiting to see what Yamaha came out with for 17. Traded in my 08 Apex LTX for a 16 Apex XTX today. Too good of a deal to pass up and a proven sled engine combination. Maybe more HP with the Sidewinder, but stone cold reliability, quality and performance with the Apex for seriously less coin.

I would like to take the chance on one but, How do I get rid of mine without giving it away? These dam things depreciate so fast who can afford it anymore? I know my Apex is holding value a lot better than other brands but the dealers around here wont even take one in trade because they have so many used sleds and left overs a year to 2 years old. Its coming down to a rich mans sport. I hate to tell you buying one with 0% like other brands are doing doesn't help ether because it makes the value of our used ones even worse. Maybe I am bitching about our bad economy.
