I crashed my prized apex last week and it will be a total loss. I actually have enough parts to put together almost any apex you could dream up (twin charged with MPI stage one feeding large impulse turbo, etc) but I am on the fence about the time and effort. Remember I had the ZX2, custom front suspemsion, MPI super charger, then Impulse race kit. There isn't a lot of stock problems left. The ZX2 would outrun most anything in the trails so I'm worried about a step backwards with the new yammie winder skid. I had the weight balance stuff done this year (rear garage thread if your interested in that) so it wasn't a big heavy pig at 640lbs will fuel ready to ride. I had 130lbs on each from ski and it was the most playful sled I ever had in tight trails. Lift the skis at 95mph all the way to 140mph. INSANE!
Is there anyone in here that would say YES DEFINITELY build that 2nd apex and forget the winder or should I just pat the grave and bring flowers annually for the apex and move on? Please only respond if you can compare to a boosted apex, as they are gods gift of power to sled heads!
Thanks all!

Sorry to hear that Kinger, that was a beauty. Followed some of your build post, it was one of a kind beast, and that paint WOW.
Sounds like only your sled got hurt, that’s a good thing!

Depends how much you actually like to ride. If you just go out on perfect conditions, and rip up lakes and smooth trails, apex will be fine.
If you actually like to ride alot, and come across rough trails, start digging the grave for that apex.

His Ape was not even close to stock, and not just in the motor department either. He had an awesome skid,ya maybe the front end was not quite up to par with the cat front end, yamaha now uses, but most all of his other stuff was awesome. Except taking off hood and sidepanels,or getting to oil filter,w/out relocation kit.

Had 3 boosted apex’s and 2 sidewinders. Buy a sidewinder and don’t look back.

I didn't boost my Apex, but I boosted a couple RX-1's.
Buy a Sidewinder, don't even think it's the wrong decision. twice the chassis, way more potential in the powertrain for less mod money

Thank you sir! It was an amazing sled! I hate seeing it all wadded up in my garage

You really couldn't compare it to any normal apex. Its hard to explain but the sled just flat out ripped the trail and loved the moguls. I'm slowing down a little now but at 40 yrs old I still could run anyone in the trails, especially when they were whooped up. I am worried about going back to a metal skid and taking the abuse.
DC5 - I know you loved your apexs so that means a lot!
I'll get the final 'verdict' on insurance payout today and will see what I am working with.
When looking at sidewinders are there any models to avoid? I'm leaning towards a 137 or 141 LE shock package. Any years better then others? I'm not going to order a 19 so it will be low mile used.
Thanks!
Have had boosted RX1s, and Apexs. I'd never go back after having the winder.

Rebuild the Apex!
You will be very disappointed like I was with the cat chassis.
Boosted Apex is the only way to roll!

If I were you I would buy a used white pro rmk chassis with a blown motor for cheep cause there are lots of them. Put your apex parts in there. Like clutches, chain case, zx2 skid, And turbo misc it would be light and solid with apex power train. You have the talent to build it obviously. There is quite a few of these builds on snowest. Like the rxpro

I have looked into a propex, I was thinking the SRV chassis is actually a step up from the pro?

- SideWinder LTX 50th
I have a 2018 LTX 50th SideWinder.
I Kept my Turbo Apex and my Stock Apex in case I didn't care for the Winder.
I trail ride only. About a 6 to 7/10 rider. 67 years old.
Winder is heavy.[590 lbs dry I think.] Heavier to lift rear for me than my rear mount Turbo Apex.
Winder has great Shocks and good suspension and versatile seating.
Winder Heavier to steer but ok.
Winder throttle response way better than MCX rear mount Apex and easy to get more HP.
Turbo Apex has been flawless in close to 10,000 km. I know I can count on it to get me home.
I don't have the same confidence in my Sidewinder I'm afraid but no personal issues yet but only 500 miles on it..
Apex more stable but Winder is pretty good.
If I had to choose only one, for my type of riding and my requirement for dependability, I'm afraid the Winder would be gone.
I get where the Winder is a better choice for the younger more aggressive owners and I do like mine.
I't is just the potential issues that trouble me.

Ya, that sounds like my turbo Nytro I had previous to this sled. After all the modifications I did, it was a great handling and riding sled.
I like the sidewinder better for simplicity. It doesnt eat sliders like the nytro did, I dont have a mess of wiring, extra fuel pump, gauges, etc. 6000kms so far on the sidewinder and it still brings a smile to my face.

I had a 290 apex xtx and I will say the power was impressive and came on abruptly which I loved. However it beat me he #*$&@ out of me when putting on big mile runs on rough trails. Love the motor but hate the skid. I have 4000 miles on my winder at 265-300 hp and love it for trail fun. Rides so much better in the rough. Doesn’t have the same rush acceleration but is sneaky fast and really is as fast. I would say move on because soon they will offer 320+ hp for trail.

I have a boosted RX, boosted Apex MTX , a stock Apex XTX and a Winder. Only thing I would give to the Winder is good tight trail manners, rear skid and seating position.
My RX is an 04 with 27,000 on it and its still running. I don't think the Winder will reach that number.
