Hurricane turbo intake upgrade

Something doesn't look right to me. That molded half-moon shaped indent is where steering post goes. Did you cut the tube correctly (correct lenth) before installing it? Mine fits great with no problem like that.

Yup followed the instructions. In my picture the steering post is swung over to the left and not in its final assembled position. When it is it lines up with the relief for the steering post.

You can’t really see this on the intake until u take it out and look at it. I was checking my clamps on the throttle bodies to make sure they were tight when I noticed it

Anyone else seeing this. The coolant hose / fitting above the intake tube seems to be interfering with the turbo inlet. I was worried it may rub thru. I ended up heating it up with a heat gun and molding a dent in the inlet for clearance. Gonna keep an eye on it.

All you needed to do was slide the clamp on the hose back a ways and cut the hose there for a better fit. You can see the bump on the end of the hard water line where the end is, go back to there with the clamp and cut the hose behind for clearance.

Hate to say it, but you just cost yourself any HP gain you may have had with that god awful bump I'm afraid. Kinks or bumps in air flow tubes are killer and its bad enough the steering post dent needs to be there in the first place.

there is already bumps molded into the part to clear the steering post. Dave said it won’t hurt anything. I was just worried it might wear thru. I smoothed it out quite a bit from what the picture shows with a heat gun. Everything seemed to fit very nicely when I installed it

Nice catch redline1, hate for that to rub thru during a trip.
As with any mods, it's best to give a peek or two to verify operation.
We'll just have to wait it out a bit to form a conclusion on what's what.

Yes. You can see the stock part in the pictures has molded in clearance for the coolant hose. I just heated the contact area on the Hurricane part with a heat gun and duplicated what the stock part has with a piece of pipe.

Very good. Glad to make adjustments now (if need be) then find out later.
My thinking is...Dave was trying to clean up that transition from intake to turbo.
Which seemingly paid some dividends, tune dependent.
Lastly, i wonder if we could wrap something around the effected area?? Small piece of sheet metal could work. Tape, glue, rivet it in place?!?!?
Thanks, redline1

@KnappAttack I just track dynoed a 2012 Apex XTX with MCXpress 290 turbo kit, 144 x 1.25 Ripsaw track, 171 trail studs (1.45 mega bites), 55 degree shop air.

8 psi = 122 track hp (using 57% efficiency would equal 214)

12 psi = 148 track hp (using 57% efficiency would equal 259)

15 psi = 169 track hp (using 57% efficiency would equal 296)

So is the Apex chassis more efficient or is the 998 tuners not advertising true horsepower? Anyone want to donate their 998? I've got a bare Apex chassis, we can stuff a Sidewinder complete setup (intake, exhaust, muffler, etc) into the chassis just to chassis dyno and find out.

What's the max psi boost an Apex can run on stock motor internals?

I suppose the chassis could be loosing out on 7% efficiency some where, plus the fact they are not making the power claimed, which most know to be true. Think about where the power loss could be coming from however. There's only two shafts and a chain case. Typical power loss due to the driveline is in the neighborhood of 10%. The track is the biggest loss on a snowmobile. Could it even be possible there is an extra 7% loss in the winders chain case? Perhaps, you'd think the heat in the chaincase would be extreme if that was the case. I figured back in the day when the 1100 Suzuki turbo was in this chassis it took an added 30-35 HP in it, compared to say a 1200 Doo turbo, so something it the chassis is robbing the power away. I had a 240 Turbo 1200 that would walk away from my buds EVO tuned winder that was supposed to be 265 HP or somewhere in that neighborhood.

Boost is irrelevant. Depends on fuel used and turbo sizing. Simons ran 8 lbs on his kits on the late model Apex on pump gas. I ran 12 lbs on pump gas Simons turbo setup with thicker head gasket, head studs and more boost at 11-12 lbs. Engine made 265 HP on a brand new 0 mile engine dyno and 150 Track HP and it was a monster way back then. I'd say about equal to a 310 HP Sidewinder tune and a good setup, and the track dyno seems to verify my butt dyno has been correct on this all along that the Apex put more power to the track than these tuned winders do at a much higher HP tunes.

Seen a stock unopened engine RX-1 run at 440 HP for a very long time and many years. Stock 1200 turbo Doo unopened engine at just over 500 HP which is insane. Cat/Suzuki 1100 turbo not nearly these levels, only around 340-350, but with internals changed, the 1100 Suzuki is the HP king of stock block engines. 998 can't match the 4 cylinder RX-1 or Apex or the 1200 Doo on stock internals. The 998 may do around 400 perhaps which is really pushing it. 998 also has less compression for boost too. 998 has proven to be more bulletproof on pump fuel with the det protections and pump gas configurations for less $$$ however.

T19 turbo a little bigger than winder turbo as well not sure that would make that big of a difference though

I have a Mcxpress stage 3 kit bigger turbo, intercooler, header to do on a 24 Thundercat here soon, so I’ll have a direct comparison with same size turbo.

2011+ Apex 5-6 psi on stock motor. The 2011+ Apex models also have lightened pistons that like to crack the skirts. This sled has JE 10:1 pistons and a little thicker Cometic head gasket with ARP head studs (stock rods).

Is there more heat generated in the track on Pro-Cross than a Delta -Box during a chassis dyno run?
