I hope there is no regrets getting this sled! Loose bolts, low coolant, blown belts and on and on. My Apex was flawless, it was my third one. Never changed a belt on any of them. Never stranded me and never missed a beat. I know reading this forum is like sitting in front of the emergency room, only broken people coming in.

My buddy got his new winder a week ago and headed out with me for a short ride and said it was surging a little. I had a look and it was slipping the belt badly. Turns out the dealer never cleaned the oil that dripped out of the filter area and it got on the clutches. Check the air box as the filter is sometimes over loaded with oil and will drip right onto the clutches. I cleaned everything up and gave the clutches a good sanding with emery cloth and runs awesome now and 10 mph faster to boot. I know many loved their apex but they had their issues too. Broken W arms, bad centre shocks and so on. So far a loose turbo bolt, and tunnel bend(not sure on that one) is not indicitive of bad or good as it is too early to tell. My gut is belts are not going to be an issue with this new sled at all. I watched him run 5 back to back speed runs of 2500 feet and his clutches were nice and cool( all after my clutch cleaning and roughly 200 miles on sled fro break in. You would never do that with a cat procross 1100. 2 runs max or grenaded belt at full wack.

I used to love to log on and read what everyone is doing to their new Winders but now I'm kinda dredding it. Afraid to log on and find out another problem people are having. Let's hope these cases are few and far in between. On a somewhat positive note, TY is a great resource for information and I gotta say, My turbo bolts were loose (tightened them) and my clamps were loose (tightened them too) and the new Curve skis are awesome, LED handguards and Tether kill switch much easier to install after reading how to do it, pulled the blocks out (way better transfer), added Billet belt adjuster (way easier to adjust the belt) and I got all this accomplished due to this site! . I never knew what a 8DN or a tune was before reading this site. This site is a great resource and hopefully it will help a few be pro-active and fix these shortcomings before they become a huge problem. Now I guess I gotta go change the bolts on my exhaust. Thanks TY, you keep me busy! Still love this thing!

Apex, far from perfect. Hand warmers sucked, ate hyfax like a pig eating apples, broke mono arms, cracked rails, mono shock valving and spring, pure garbage at release.. after a 5000 miles you had to watch for the crank sensors to go out ... they all have problems.

Personally i think this sled will be the real deal.
As with anything mechanical,theres always gonna be issues and problems. The question is will you experience them.
I would be willing to bet anything wrong with this sled will be minor.
The procross chassis has had its fair share of testing and most weak points have been addressed.
Yamaha clutches have always been rock solid reliable, the improvments to the new clutches are only going to make them better.
The suspension is proven and in my opinion is the best suspension to ever be installed in a "yamaha"
The drivetrain has been slowly improved year after year and at this point should have no issue other than maybe an occasional electric reverse actuator
The motor, ohhhh the motor. This thing is gonna haul some serious azz

Now I just read the chaincase post! I get to ride mine Friday, I'm excited. Hoping for a positive experience. Lots of negatives to read here. Like I said its like sitting in front of the emergency room front door.

I have bought first year sleds before, and yes they came with issues. Cold hand warmers, cooling issues, among others. This will all work out. This should be a awesome sled, that's why I bought it. I just think in this day we shouldn't deal with R&D issues.

I've had 10 apexes and they were awesome machines, but they don't hold a candle to my sidewinder. The winder rides better, handles better, and is faster. Most of all, the seating position on the winder is accolades above the apex. The apex I could stand for a big hole, whereas the winder I can comfortable ride standing up for miles.......which is a huge asset on whooped out trails.

I've also had a couple turbo cats. The winder is everything they were....and everything they werent!!!

I feel the winder will be the bench mark for all future snowmobiles to be measured against. It isn't perfect.......but it's the best starting template I've seen so far!!! With the wealth of information shared on this site, I know by the end of winter....... mine will be perfect!!

I think you are correct! I'm still excited about this sled. I get to ride it in a couple of days.

I get it. People spent allot of hard earned dough on these sleds and they want to vent if it's not perfect, BUT.
I would much rather here about these "Potential" problems and be aware of them so I can keep an eye on things, than find out on my own out in the woods! If somebody is having even a minor problem, Please let us know! There are allot of sled geniuses on this site that are willing to give you all the free advice you need to keep your new ride up

Not if you talk to krm...he makes it sound as if the 850 is the greatest thing since sliced bread and the purchase of his Sidewinder was a mistake.
