Ice Storm 150 or 1.6” Ice Cobra

I had a couple lugs rip off my 1.6” ice cobra last year so I’m looking at installing a new track before this season. I just can’t make up my mind between the 1.6” ice cobra or the ice storm 150. Has anyone had the chance to try both tracks? I did like the 1.6” ice cobra and I have managed to put almost 12,000km on the track.

The only thing that worries me about the Storm track is I have read some reviews where people had mentioned about tearing lugs off and noticing vibration at certain speeds due to the stiffer lugs.

I am with you.. I had no idea what direction to go as well so I put a Hurricane on and added Igrips on my 2020 Winder...LOL, I have a Ice Storm on our boosted Viper and love the traction and trail aspects of it but it only has 300 miles on it.

One of my riding buds is putting an Ice Storm on his 17 129, but I don't have any feed back as of yet from anyone else.
The 1.6 Cobra that came on my 18 141 with a 3.0 pitch held up really well. However, the one that came on my 19 LTX with 2.86 pitch seemed like the lugs were stiffer and some tore off. I had to replace it and warranty at Camso said no.

I haven't tried the 1.6" Ice Cobra, however, I have been running the Ice Storm 150 since day 1 on my '19 Sidewinder LTX. First year I ran stock for about 1,700 miles. Then I tuned it last year and put on about 2,400 miles, so a total now of 4,100 miles. Track looks excellent with zero issues of anything tearing. I absolutely love this track!!! The hookup is amazing and love the handling on the trails. Think it's a perfect track for my type of riding in Northern WI.

I put igrips in my 20 Ltx and while the traction was sufficient for my style of riding with lots of loose snow with occasional icy corner they all seemed to be tearing the bottom of the lug(to much flex) . I’m torn between the ice storm or just studding the ripsaw with 96 on double backers which I’ve had on the last two sleds with no issues.

The ice storm 150 is one ply and the storm 150 is two ply.
I went with the storm 150 and may add studs if needed.

Put the Hurricane on mine as well when I picked my 2020 up last year (no iGrips to date) and it is great. When I was choosing a track for my 2020, I knew the stock RS2 would not work in the deep snow we get piling up on the lake or to the house. I did a ton a research - there are guys that love both the 1.6 IC and Ice Storm and guys who hate them equally. I did read a lot about lugs ripping off both. Hurricane is a two ply track as well. If you run mostly icy trails with limited snow it may not be so good for you but then you may not need anything over a 1.25 either. If your conditions are deeper, it is a fantastic track. Interested to hear how the iGrips hold up on Mr. Sled's application.

I have run them in the back country tacks and they have been doing really well. I will keep you posted.

I've ran the storm on a cat 800. I love it, but with how stiff the lugs are it doesn't last long. I ran kold kutter screws(an iGrip equivalent) and they seem to work great in the icy corners without worrying of tearing out studs. However, I feel from the constant flexing they help deteriorate the track quicker. I baffled winder owners who have a tuned sled are getting miles out of these tracks. I live in upstate NY so we have some trail junk (roads, rocks, sticks) and while I am the most mindful about this the track could be built to last longer. That being said... I did replace my whooped storm with a new one!

I have the I-grips in 2 of my sleds ( tuned Winder & Apex )with the 1.75 backcountry tracks. Have Run them 2 seasons now and have not lost a grip yet I have run both sleds many miles and would use them in future sleds.

I think the durometer of the lugs should be published as part of track specs. Like tires, different compounds with provide different levels of grip and durability. I think once a sled is boosted, the track durability picture changes. Studs and the typical trail conditions someone rides upon is also a factor. I am not a fan of single ply tracks on high powered sleds. I am a fan of fully clipped two ply tracks. I think once you past a 1.5 lug, longevity is challenged when running high speed for long distances on a hard surface. Longer studs on a longer lug track is also a wear factor. It would be great if one of the snowmo magazines did a scientific track comparison on a high powered sleds.

Having a track exit the back of my sled at 100mph on the lake years ago has made me a little cautious. LOL
I think of tracks as wear items that need periodic replacement.

How's the top end?I just hate the track spin with 1.25 rip2,my other sled has studs and it does no better on the trails..I just want this sled.to hook up on the trails..just not sure between storm and hurricane.
