Fried an idler this weekend!! Waiting for the dealer to let me know where to go next. (Might be a warranty item might not.) Best riding in NH in ten years, is it "safe" to ride on one delaminated idler for a "while" or do I need to leave it with the dealer for two days to fix it.

Also, track howl!! (sp) at 25 MPH; normal??

Thanks, great info site!!!

I wouldn't let a delaminated idler stop me. The worst it could do is wear your slides prematurly if even that. If you have good snow you should be fine. Go ride and check your slides every once in awhile.

Forget Yami idlers and get Polaris or Doo idlers. Search for posts on this subject and you'll find lots of tips.

I've also noticed many sleds with track howl. Not sure why since all have loose tracks. Even tried with tight tracks. The yamaha spoked idler wheel is a great replacement and only $24 but not sure what the number is on it.

the # for the spoked idler wheel is sma-8fp38-01-sl
the sl stands for silver i think bl is blue, bk is black rd for red.

You're lucky, idler wheels aren't covered under warranty in Canada. Yamaha says - normal wear item, along with carbs need to be sync at 4000km's, and clutch pitting, no warranty.

Check and make sure you didn't bend the rails on a jump when landed. Had that issue with my exciter, couldn't figure it out, this could cause the idler wheel to go as well. Look straight down the rails from the rear you'll know right away.
