Importing a Sled into Canada from the US

sounds interesting roadrunner.... maybe i'll load up a semi and big back a bunch of sleds... open a satellite USA Yamaha sled shop here in CDN.. :)
 

Another dealer near to Buffalo is Pioneer Motorsports in Chafee. They have a knowledgeable staff and also supply Yamaha aftermarket performance parts. I have not bought a sled there, but have dealt with them on parts and they have always been good, standing behind their products. i believe they have a web site as well.
 
This was discussed prior to the Yamaha ride yesterday. Both Yamaha personnel were aware of the PROBLEM and senior management were addressing the issue with Japan but did not know if any changes were coming. They did not have any reason for the tremendous price variance other than U.S. marketing aggresive actions.

Seems someone feels they have to fight for growthe in the U.S. but us Canucks will buy whatever the price.

I would be interested in saving $2,500 as well. I'm in Toronto so now there is 5 of us that want to buy in the US
 
importing a sled into canada

I bought a viper from Don George's last year, and imported it back to Canada. You don't pay the state tax. When you arive at the border with your receipt and sled,you go inside and they convert the price you paid into canadian dollars. then you pay the gst on that amount. then you pay $182 for the registrar of imported vehicles paperwork,and your on your way. A couple of weeks later they send you some paper work and you go to canadian tire and have it inspected. It's a joke. They check for a kill switch, reflectors,headlight on while running and speedo in kph,if not they put a sticker on it.With a digital guage no problem. The inspector signs the paper work and your off to the mto to register it. You pay the pst on the converted amount and they give you your sticker. :D I called customs this morning and nothing has changed since I did it. I have been dealing with Don Georges for over 15 years. They stock tons of parts and accessories. They sell lots of sleds, which means if their is a problem with a sled they will see it first ,because they have so many customers on the snow. Give Don Jr a call you won't be disapointed. 716 759-6837. They are only a half hour from Lewiston/Queenston Bridge. I talked with 3 Canadian dealers today and they gave me prices of 14400 and 14999 for GT's the first dealer was alotted 6 and they were sold ,the second had 2 but they were sold and the third had 1 and they wanted 14999. GT's are being marketed as limited production. Don't forget in the US their snow check ends on March 31
 
$2500 buys you a lot of gas for riding but........ when your sled breaks down you either take it back down south for warranty & wait.... or take it to your local dealer and have to pay because they will not honor the warranty from US sleds & you will really have to wait.... so save $2500 and possibly lose 2,3, or 4 weeks of riding because you were not a priority customer, or shop at home & get prompt service if you need it. Winter is short & I love to ride. ;)! If I'm looking for a used sled I'll shop anywhere but a new one will come from the local dealer who has made me feel like I'm the best customer he has. :ORC
 
Nice Try Bver Fever. The chances of a Yamaha four stroke having a problem in the first year is slim. You should know that! :4STroke: If a US sled breaks down in Canada yes you have to pay for the repairs, but then Yamaha US reimberses you. The same goes for a Canadian sled breaking down in the US. I wouldn't take my sled to the Canadian dealer anyway, I'd take it to the US dealer who is going to treat me like gold, and wasn't so greedy to try and make a killing off of my purchase in the first place. I feel sorry for the Canadian dealers but the shoe is on the other foot now. :( Yamaha Canada is the one who has created this problem. The reality is that in a sport that is affected by weather you can't see more and more profit year after year. Just look at the car industry , that isn't affected by the weather. Sometimes you just can't make more money than the year before,no mater how many hyped up marketing courses you take. :ORC SO YOU DRIVE YOUR SLED BACK TO DON GEORGE'S IFFFFFF! IT NEEDS TO BE FIXED AND NOW YOU ONLY HAVE $2300 FOR GAS. ;)! AND YOU DON'T LOSE "2 OR 3 OR 4 WEEKS OF RIDING IN THE SHORT SEASON".

you are wrong . if you buy a sled in the us and import it to canada
you void warranty immediatly in canada . you must have a registered U S residence in order to claim warranty . The same goes for americans buying
sleds in Canada no canadian residence no warranty either side of the border This is done by the manufactuer to protect their dealers on both sides of the border from currency changes .The same is done by GM FORD DODGE etc .No problem bringing it into canada but hope you dont have problems cause your SOL
