Could I get the experts opinion on the performance gains obtained using a roller secondary? I have a stock 03 RX-1 shorty and have been experiencing the same problems posted by Impalapower. My reason for looking at a roller secondary is to get smoother shifting. All opinions are very welcome. Thanks.

I have to say, that is a sin to have all those miles on your sled. With that said, I have a roller EX secondary and have been very happy with it. It is great for trail riding. I got mine from Max Performance. Very good people to deal with.
Our company makes a roller and I don't use it. I'm not a fan. the purpose of a roller is to increase backshift. However I can make a Button clutch do the same thing.
Rollers are a gimick in my opinion. The problem with teh Team is it's Heavy. You don't want to add all the rotating Mass to your jackshaft!!! Plus your stuck running there helixs.
My Couisn has a team oller for his Poo and it's sitting on his shelve because it doesn't work!!!

I don't believe in the Team roller either. Great for snoX and maybe out west for mountain riding. But like JTSSRX said you can make a button work just as good if not better.
With that said. The weight that it adds is minimal because it's all in the "hub" area of the clutch which isn't far enough off the jackshaft to make a noticeable difference in the rotating weight.

A person who takes care of there cltuches the button style by cleaning it and replacing the buttons will work just as good as the roller i have a Team roller for my srx and it sits in the box right now much happier with the oem

Great feedback, thanks. I've got 5K miles on my 03 shorty and have been good about diassembling, cleaning and reassembling after every 1200 - 1500 miles. The buttons still look OK, not too wmuch wear. Would anybody have any reccommendations for a different spring, spring settings and helix combinations to improve the overall performance? All of my riding is trail riding in Quebec, high mileage per trip, little concern about top end.
Thanks, you guys are terrific. If only the rest of the world got and shared info. along like the people on this site!!

I have a team on my sled and it works just fine. Better than the stock clutch now that I figured what spring and helix to use. It shifts good in the snow and the outside belt adjuster is nice to have. If you run the stock spring in the primary and stock weights with a 54-38 .46 helix the sled will perform with any of these clutch kits everybody are selling. I know because I have bought them all. It will get 14 to 15 miles per gallon. It shifts great and the engine braking that you experinence with the stock one will be almost gone. I have tried different helixs and the rx-1 doesn't like anything over a 38 for what reason I don't know. AND NO BELT DUST with this set-up. If you want to run top-end with the 800tripples polaris's this set-up will do it. You have 250. dollars in a primary clutch set-up with the weights and springs or 300 in a team clutch that can take off when you sell the sled. Its your choice but the team works well when it is set-up by a flat-lander who runs the trails. And use a 125-175 spring in the team the red-gray spring you will like this set-up. Woodtic
