Has anyone had this happen before? It’s just one mounting bracket but am wondering if the case should be changed or just run it.
I am sure these are backordered!

A better pic would be helpful. Maybe a closer pic and one further out ? I think it kind of depends where the crack is? Obviously you probably should fix this but

Why wouldn't you just get it welded? Make me feel better.

It’s one mounting tab to tunnnel , the others are all fine. No leaks from case and everything else seems fine. Will try and get a better pic. There are other mounting tabs/ears close to it which are fine.

Any idea what its from? Did you go off trail and hit something? If you run it just realize the harder you beat on it the more flex and stress on the tunnel and mounting's. Not saying you beat your sleds.. Maybe just go a little easier on it in the rough stuff? Stay on trail.. Not sure about welding magnesium? It’s one mounting tab to tunnnel , the others are all fine. Its a friend's new sled that he picked up from a dealer, so no history on it. 4000 miles. I would assume this could have been from hitting something hard (although I would imagine more would be cracked?) or overtighten from factory. I see most people were getting this back case replaced under warranty with similar cracks but this is a 2018 so no warranty. Am wondering how much stress is actually on it, if just JBwelding will be sufficient and run it.Any idea what its from? Did you go off trail and hit something? 10 4. I would replace it if possible.. JB probably wont do much in that spot, worth a try. Keep a eye on it.. If the sled is going to be run hard in big stuff it could put more stress on it or the remaining bolts that are holdingIts a friend's new sled that he picked up from a dealer, so no history on it. 4000 miles. If it were me, i pull the bolt out clean the area real good, fire up my mig welder with aluminun spoolgun and weld it in chassis, then run a tap or thread chaser thru hole and retorque bolt.

I may be wrong but I thought these cases were magnesium. Not sure it can be welded

You can weld magnesium but I would first ask the welder if they have ever done aluminum and then ask if they can do magnesiumI may be wrong but I thought these cases were magnesium. Not sure it can be welded

Ya I think it’s pretty specialized process. I know casting it can be dangerous magnesium fires can get out of control pretty easyYou can weld magnesium but I would first ask the welder if they have ever done aluminum and then ask if they can do magnesium

Seems I will just run it as is. Posted on FB groups, and some people have 20,000 kms with a cracked ear. I believe this may have even happened at factory from overtightening. Will monitor it this season and see how it goes. Too bad the case is magnesium, not worth risk of welding.

The ears on the case and covers crack super easy. The proper way to do it and a pain in the #*$&@ is to start at a 1/4 final torque value and go all the way around in a star pattern, then 1/2, then 3/4, and then final torque.
The cover can get misaligned easily.
