Anybody put any on an Apex this year and care to share their results. Really looking for a ski that will drive over the other ski tracks without following and less overall darting.

I put a set of these on my Apex this year and what a difference over stock! I went with 7.5 inch Stud Boy Shaper Bars and there is VERY little darting. I made sure the skis were shimmed 3/8" in the FRONT of the ski and toed them in 1/8". The skis do sometimes still track in the path of other skis but with this setup they don't jolt you back and forth while trying to stay within the tracks like the stock skis do.

I have Powderhounds. Same keel and curvature, just a little wider. 8" Bergstrom Triplepoints, same 3/8" shim in the front, and 1/4" of toein. Just shortened my limiter by 1 hole and the Attak truly Attaks. Steeering effort is much less than my stock shimmed ski's with the same wearbars. Doesn't push, just turns and goes!! If you do any offtrail at all, the Powderhound is what you'll need. Stay on the trail, the race ski will be fine. They are slightly wider than the stock ski. Hope this helped you.

Listed to Viper_Dave! I modeled my set-up after his and got it close to perfect on the first try (shimming the front, toe in). I could probably toe mine in slightly more, but the setup I have is working well so why go away from it?

I have been running my slydog trails for a year and like them. What's with shimming the front up 3/8"? I didnt shim mine and they seem good. What does the shimming do for you? Maybe I'll try it.

Shimming your skis will give you more grip going around corners. Instead of pushing through them, the ski thats shimmed will have back pressure which in return will give you a more precise steering and it will rail!

I know that shimming them in the back will put more of the pressure on the back of the skis.
These guys are shimming them on the FRONT.

Yeah...I guess IM wondering if when they say they are shimming the front if they are actually puttin the s him in the front or the back of the ski.
dont know if they mean by shimming the front they are raising the front (back of rubber)
Guess Im just reading into it differently
by the way just bought 2 sets of trails today for mine and wifes Apex. I hope they get here by Saturday....

The posts are referring to shimming the front of the bumper as opposed to the rear like most do with stock or other skis.
Reason being, the slydog bumpers and skis place too much pressure on the rear of the ski creating too much of a lift in the front. Some have seen increased wear on the rear of the skis when they did not shim the front.
I have a set of race skis that I am still waiting to try on my Apex since it is in the shop. I installed them on a 2000 Venture while I am waiting and they work awesome on that sled!

I kinda thought so - thanks... .just seemed odd that every other thing I read had skis shimmed in rear.
I will definatly get to shimming right away! On the FRONT of the bumper

jwifferdill,
Thanks, that is a good report on those. Nice to finally get feedback on an Apex as most on here run them on the Attack.
So they definaltey sound better than stock but still exhibit some of the stock ski characteristics but to a lesser degree. Know if anyone has tried the Studboy deuce bar on the Slydog to alleviate the minor darting?

Tweaker,
The darting is so minor that I might not even monkey with any adjustments. The only thing I may consider is backing off the transfer rod slightly, as I currently have quite a bit of ski pressure. If you use this as a starting point I would guess you will be pleasantly surprised!

IF you don't shim the front on Slydog ski's, using the supplied bumper, the carbide will be WAY up in the air in the front. This effectively reduces the amount of wearbar in contact with the snow. Steers REAL easy, but has very little sidebite. If you read the Tech Page article on shimming, you'll note that you want the leading edge of the carbide SLIGHTLY elevated. I talked to Scott Bergstrom about my Powderhounds before I installed them. He said I would probably need a 3/8 shim. I thought a 1/4 would be enough. Lesson learned AGAIN!! When Scott tells me a setup, just do it. Wearbars show a perfect wear pattern, i.e., slight wear to the rear of the bar. Once I changed the 1/4 to 3/8, my sled railed. Kevin and others, if you want to do the shim once, use the 3/8.You will be riding 99% dart free with good bite in the corners

I got some great news to post and when it all unfolds I will definatly put it up.

Well didnt work out...really hoped I would have my slydogs on both sleds this weekend, but there was issues at slydog.
Will hold off for a while... pretty bummed, it cost me 80 bucks shipping to get teh carbides here in time.
