It's to bad but you are right for sure. About 10 of us went to a local ski mountains bar last year and it was about the time the skiers were leaving. Through the parking lot I felt like I was parading with human heads on sticks the way these city folks were cringing. I even heard a woman almost in tears asking her hubby if it was almost over yet. All holding their noses and here I am with the 4 stroke in the bunch but I might as well kick a dog, slap a kid, rape pillage, etc.etc
I wonder if there is a no snowmobiles sign this year?

Any new news on this noise law? What are the test procedures for this noise law? How far back from the sled...how far to the side, etc?

last I heard it was in the comittee for tourism, natural resources and outdoor recreation..in hearings..
the suposed law would be...78dbs...measured at full throttle at 50 feet or more likely...
88dbs measured about 2 ft to the side...about 18 inches off the ground...taken at 4000 rpms..

IF ITS UNDER 100DB IT SHOULD BE
ALLOUDED. 4 STROKES AND 2 STROKES SHOULD HAVE SEPREATE REGS. 4 STRKS ARE LOUD BUT ONLY TO A CERTAN DISTANCE. 2 STRKS ON THE
OTHER HAND CAN BE HEARD FROM TWICE/TRIPLE THE DISTANCE DUE TO THERE HIGH RPM POWERBAND. IS IS WHY I FEEL 4 STRKS SHOULD HAVE DIFFERNTE REGS THAN OTHER HEIGH PERFORMANCE MACHINES.

I will sign the petition but we all must also realize that our actions, by and large, dictate the regulations we all seem to hate.

there are at least 200,000 licensed sleds in michigan...add to that the out of state riders as well..
just like any law or lack thereof...
there are those who will tread on others rights and liberties...regardless of what a law says...
there's a better way to do this than laws for everything..you cant police common sense

I am certainly not anti snowmobiles, but welcome the anti noise law. I also think the speed rules are necessary. Most of us use common sense, and will not get a ticket. It's that one percent of idiots that make laws necessary. I know that most of the DNR officers in Michigan are A-holes, but it's something we have to live with, just like when we hunt.

Laws and speed limits wont limit the offenders just inconvenience the common user...
what drew me to this sport was the freedom...first it starts there...the liberties start falling one by one...if it gets too restrictive I for one will be gone from this sport...and I know others who feel the same..and where will area's like the u.p. be when half as many are spending money up there in the winter?

Coming from the south I'm amazed at how people allow open access to thier land. VT and NH both have tails in town through yards and around peoples private homes. Most of these people are non-sledders. If all they ask is for me to stay on the trail and not make more noise than I have to I have no problem with that.

laws
Example of laws stopping bad behavior.
Remember the days when you could look into the car next to you, and see guys with a beer between their legs? I was a typical construction worker. Buy a 6 or 12 pack for the ride home, or on the way up north.
When's the last time you've seen that?
I got stopped by a trooper last night while leaving a bar, with my wife. He ran my plate, on a fishing expedition. There was an accidental problem with my plate, so he stopped me. I was required to tell him I had a handgun in the truck. He smelled alcohol from my wife, and saw that my eyes were bloodshot, He kept asking me whether I had been drinking. He was very professional, as most troopers are, and I didn't get a ticket.
If I had 1 drink, I would have lost my concealed pistol license. If I had 3 drinks, I would have been in jail right now.
I quit drinking Dec. 1st.. Why did I quit? Because of the stricter alcohol laws. It's too bad the penalties are so draconian now, but most people are changing their conduct because of them. They do work, and it will work on the trails

I've been snowmobiling, off and on, since 1973, so I'm not new to snowmobiling. I have three sleds in my garage I use when weather conditions allow. I'm telling you guys I'd like to get out my rifle when loud sleds go by the front at night. They are a royal pain and the guys who insist on having louder aftermarket pipes and cans are too. A blight on snowmobiling. You want to drive loud sleds and do it at speeds that show no regard for other trail users, join a race circuit where that's welcome. It's far from just the anti-snowmobiling crowd that are fed up with the selfish, loud jerks that infest our trails. I'd be happy to see those with excessively louds sleds get ticketed. Large fines. As for the speed limit, that is what it has been for decades. I've been on sections of trails where faster than 30 mph is potentially dangerous and other places where triple digit speeds make sense. Even in some of those wide open long straights a deer can pop up suddenly before you can react. You want that law changed you'll saddle us wth a hard numberthat is easier to enforce and won't allow 100+ where it's wide open and straight.

seems like the older we get the mosre sensitive to the noise we become..and I've heard some where I agree..the loud stingers on the triple cats of the nineties etc..
I dont think what I have is in that vein...go to excell and listen and tell me what you think...I'd like to know if you think that is reasonable?????
