For Munising rides, we spend most of our time off-trail. Of course we prefer off-trail anyway, but I really feel for folks that prefer sit-down trail riding. I have wrecked sleds and suspensions on the wonderful #8.

That is one of the reasons I go to Munising, to spend time with my pal Buddah. Sure am glad he knows the back trails.....
Good thing you included this disclaimer.......you chiming in to move things was about to get me hot on your heels.......
If I lived there I would be furious and demand answers from the groomer people. Clearly, we can see the groomers sitting outside and not getting worked on. Total BS! They should get fined from the MSA for not keeping up maintenance and grooming. And to say the warm weather kept them from grooming is hog wash. The weather wasn't that bad and there was plenty of snow.
To my personal observations MSA is more interested in self-promotion than actually accomplishing anything positive.........coupled with the fact they don't actually have the power to "fine" anybody.........
As to the weather......I understand how & why they made that decision.......I don't agree with it but I'll explain when I see you.........

Been reading post on Munising trails, yes same as last year. We ride there once a year, couples.
Our ride is much different then yours, start at 9am done at 3-4pm. Easy 130-150 miles a day.
We stay in Christmas because it on west side, because trail 8 usually only way back to you room
If you’re on east side. That is what the problem is; you can not groom the main highway all day
Long when there is that much traffic.
The second problem is your riding Thursday though Saturday, bad idea. I use to ride with some crazies
Called Crazy 8. Always stayed in Newberry, fund out they only groomed mon, wed, and fri.
We would send a guy out in the truck in the morning to find out which way the groomer went.
Newberry lost there snowmobile business back around 2002. Same story you are complaining about.
I know it hard for guys get off work but this is a planned vacation that all you guy look fore ward to.
Answer to all this is Monday-Friday.
We were at Brimley 1/17-1/24 the week after your guys trip. Riding was wonderful. Usually
We do not ride on Saturday but did this time and it was great .Never had a bad trail.
Our sport is a lot of fun but riding today you have to plan your location and days. Guys who can not get off work come up on Thursday ride till Saturdays, that why we don not ride on Friday or Saturday.
If you have hundred sleds head out in the morning and return the same way that two hundred rider on the same trail, believe me that trail is trashed.
Monday thru Friday my friends.

I disagree. Why is it the Bill Nichols Trail between the Mass City Area in Michigan and Houghton is IMO.."very rideable" even at it's worst? The amount of sleds on that trail has to be many times more than the Munising trails.
I remember in years past you didn't want to even think about riding the BN after 2PM on any given day. 2-3 ft. rollers by then. Now? With greater frequency of grooming and better techniques, I'll ride that trail anytime on any day.

Really? I mentioned elsewhere the guy that was with me in the groomer last Sunday quit counting at 317 and that was only between 0845 and 1300 hrs......we left earlier and never saw a sled for the first 90+ minutes...........

3 was ok at 2pm Saturday... 13 going south not the case... The 13 loop north of pats was great as well as 12 toward silver city... Once we hit 1 toward bergland 7-8 pm... I wanted to just die!!! We rode to LotC early in the morning... It was flat groomed 4 wide no lie... When we hit it a 7 pm every inch was 3' rollers all the way across... I stopped more in 20 miles then I did the rest of the 200...
Hopefully my mid week trip proves that's it's just the amount of traffic this year and not bad grooming

Been riding in newberry for a couple of days now and trails are great same as always. Rode to paradise and grand Maria's a few bumps but not bad at all. Hope everyone gets some good riding in this year before it's over.

Groomer out of Seney regularly counts over 1000 sleds in one trip on the weekends. There are a lot of variables in play and not to hammer on anyone, but the situation in Munising is not good. They need to forget what they think they know and listen to others from other successful areas. While I have never personally attended the meetings, I know some who do. Some are convinced they are doing the best they can, and others think quite different. I agree with the latter group. As long as the approach stays the same, they will never get over the hump (no pun intended).

I'm curious who your "some I know" is? I've been to every damn meeting since Sept. so I'm curious......PM if you don't want to share in the "open"
