Thinking it is time to get another Yammi. I had a Srx and loved it but the ride was terrible. Since two poo's and I'm sick of fixing all the defects they have from the factory..IE clutching, jetting, wiring issues and so on. I want fuel injection but it needs to be reliable. I've heard apex's do have some issues to watch for...exhaust donuts, crank sensors, and drive bearings....is this stuff true? What mileage does this stuff break? I can't afford a new one looking at 06 and 07's right now. Just don't want to spend 4-5k and stick another 1k in it and a hundred hours of my time....been there done that.

thanks guys Dave

BTW this is the BEST sled forum on the planet and it makes owning a Yamaha that much better.

Donuts are at about 5000 miles on average. Idlers usually get noisy about 2500 miles but can be repacked. Chain case bearings usually need to be checked at 5000 mi but not all fail. Others have gone longer than that but that was my experience with my 05 war. As to the as to the sensor, I have only ever had a problem with mine when there was heavy frost on the sled in the trailer. Once defrosted it was fine. Only othe problem is fuel pump relay but pouring hot water or in your pocket for 10 min is usually enough to fix it.

Donuts are an issue around 6000kms but its a one time fix if you do the copper donuts and do it at teh first sign of leaking. Drive axle bearings is regular maintenance for any brand. I change mine every 2 season because they are cheap and easy to change. The W-arm on the Mono skid is on the weak side if you ride aggressive or are a big guy...again not a huge deal to beef it up. If you like puttering in the off season the oil-lite front end bushings is a nice improvement too.

I've got 13000kms on mine and I've done donuts and oil changes...and a few odds and ends but nothing out of the ordinary. I loved my RX and I love my Apex...that 4 cylinder is an amazing motor.

Saying I buy a used one with 5-10k on it how much $$$ does this exhaust stuff run...figure worst case scenario, that's my luck!!!

A-arm bushings should be check after 2000 miles and steering post bushings, check the oil tank for leaks, running board coolers leak after a few 1000 miles at the rear mounts. If you buy one off of a TYer chances they have fix the issues listed. The motor will last for more miles the sled will. Belts will last 2500 miles or more. :sled1: :rocks:

If you are doing just the donuts under 80 bucks but if you have to replace a header pipe do to bad donuts 300-400 for used set.

around 7000-10000 the drive shafts have been know to fail. All the bearings will last many miles if they have been took care of.

so I could spend a grand on all new parts? That is a real possibility? I better find one that has a lot of these updates done with the aftermarket parts.

What is your location? I've seen quite a few 06-08 Apex, Attak and Vectors in this area with 4,000 or less miles for $5,000 or less.

se Wisconsin...between Sheboygan and Milwaukee. I'm thinking if I get one at the least it should have the donuts done or have low mileage. Seems every used sled I have bought since 2001 has needed at least $500 in parts within the first hundred miles or so.
