Trying to decide on an Apex.

Clutch spring works really well for low speed engagement. Loading or unloading and around parking lots... I don't have one but have ridden friends sleds that do. Doesn't do anything for engine braking though. You can get different types of windshields from Yamaha but I don't think the taller ones have the maroon color. I have seen clear and smoked.
Ok so if no effect on engine braking then I will have to get used to it. low speed is not my issue, it is when slowing down and standing that screws me up.

Once your used to it and use the engine braking in your favor you won't want to ride a sled without it! You barely need to use the brakes. I love the engine braking. They are a different animal to get used to.

Yep rode a Polaris this weekend and I missed the engine braking badly. Second only to the Apex engine.

Nice sled. just don't let off all the way on the throttle when slowing down to avoid the engine breaking.

i added the schmidt bros clutch kit to my 2011 XTX and with the helix he has it reduces the engine breaking. the kit also had the shorter primary for lower engagement which works well and the Mid-range pull feels a lot stronger.

Yes the high center of gravity is part of the issue I am sure, and sure it will not be long till I get used to it as I really love the riding position. I am going to need to lower the front end and retest for sure. I seen a lot of talk about dialing in the suspension and upgrading the sway bar etc. for the twisty's, that is not an issue for me because I have gotten older and wiser. It actually makes me very concerned that it happens, there is not a weekend that goes by where some speedster comes around the corner on the edge of outa control and almost hits me by using the whole trail. Happened twice this weekend again, the second time when the kid jammed his brake his buddy plowed into the back of him. They need to ride on a closed one way trail if that is how they are going to ride, this is why I will not let anyone lead in our group because of this.

This was my first year on my Attak. I did all the upgrades before even riding it this year because of everything I was reading.

I experience a very minimal amount of tippyness with my 13mm sway bar, 5.7 pilots with the shocks softened up.

X2 on the morons on the trail. Is is out of control. I am the same way as you are. I am always up front. Whenever there is a corner, I am as tight as possible to the side and waiting for someone to come around the corner.

No doubt morons are coming around the corner out of control with the finger held up to tell you how many more idiots are behind them!
X2 on 13mm swaybar and soft shocks. Aftermarket skis and ski shims make a big difference two.

I stopped riding in the populated areas like Gaylord (really any area near I-75) 15 years ago due to the heavy traffic and speed racers and several close calls when kids were riding with us. We started riding in the NE area of the lower peninsula where there was about 90% less sled traffic. I will say the area has grown in popularity but still about 50% less traffic as what we seen in the I-75 corridor, hate to see how many more riders in the area now.

Riding our RXs over the last several years it does not seem as severe on them even tho I know they have it also. I am sure it wont take long to master it and may be more severe with FI then carbs. The first time it happened was five minutes into my very first ride after crossing the lake to hit the trail. Scared the $hit outa me. I also noticed this sled warm idles at 2k rpm, am going to lower it back down to 1500 when I get a chance as reading the procedure in the owners manual looks like a PITA to get to idle screw.

I went over the handle bars once when my thumb slipped off the throttle. It was quite amusing.

I am sure it was, when I was coming of lake there was a large gathering of ice fishers standing around that would have been amused by this also. However I would have probably broken a hip or something if I would have went over and that would have not been amusing for me.......

I do remember reading that larger skid wheels helped with the engine braking. I have no way to compare whether or not it does b/c i put doo wheels with 2 mount brackets in before the season started. I can tell you that I don't seem to notice the engine braking very much. Like I said, nothing to compare it to though.

Idle setting is no PITA at all. Just do with a philips from the side. You can even see it without removing any panels.

Ok, I will look at it this weekend when back up there for probably my last ride since they saying huge warm up coming next week to put the final nail in the coffin. The owners guide showed pulling the sled half apart.
