Trying to decide on an Apex.

Yea I am sure it will feel very different then my RX 1. I rode that Attack last night and when it hooked it lifted the skis way up, not sure if because of the long track or the way he had the suspension set up. Did not test Apex yet, where I picked up sled very minimal amount of snow.
Skis in the air would be in the setup of the skid. Buddy bought an 06 RTX that would "wheelie" all the time. He finally let me look at it and I found the transfer rod was at max transfer. Adjusted it closer to min transfer. He is very happy they way it performed after that.

So I went and looked at the Attack GT and was let down. He told me on phone "It is the cleanest Attack around" Well maybe I am too picky but, there was salt damage on bare aluminum and rivet heads on the tunnel and the rear skid frame, the running boards paint worn off, the hood plastics and windshield had wear marks from a loose cover blowing on a open trailer, and the sled had almost 1k more miles then advertised. He would not budge on price, I may have given him 3500 but was not hauled in enclosed trailer as stated ( by previous owner) and he bought it in the fall and never put in his name. So I passed on it and went and looked at the 2009 Apex with 2k miles and that sled looked brand new! So.....I now own a Apex. It has a new battery, studded track and dual carbides and a nice deluxe cover for 5k

For Apex? How much? If price right may do Blue swap over the summer. Just want to get up there and ride.....leaving at three

Don't see the Attak listed anymore. Wonder if it sold after you looked at it?

He said he had two other calls. I know he was heading north for the weekend riding.

I vote black Attak GT. Throw a lower offer out. Great looking sled. $3400????
That's a great deal! I just paid $3500 for my 06 Attak with 3800mi. Has lots of accessories . Tank cover w/ storage bag map pouch, hand guards, skid plate and a-arm protectors. Bought mine from a guy in my club. I like buying from people I know

Nice sled! Congrats on the purchase. Too bad you wasted your time with the other one. Oh well. Good luck! U will really like that sled. Welcome to the family!

So after riding my new, to me Apex, there were a few issues/concerns. The first is the reverse popped out and grinded when trying to back up at the gas station in sand lake, went home that night and adjusted linkage and fixed that. The ride of this sled is 10,000 times better then my RX, smoother and seemed peppier, but tippy without extreme shifting of my body weight, so need to figure out and do some adjusting. I almost went over the handle bars twice when standing and letting off the throttle, holly crap moment. The engine braking seems way more severe then my RX or something because this feels way different then my old sled. I really thought the first time I was going over the bars coming off the lake and standing to miss the bump and let off the gas. And the last thing is the windshield, it was a warm day so temp wise not a big deal but the wind hitting my chest was very annoying. Going to have to do some research on a better windshield. We took off in the morning with a foot of fresh snow and 30 degrees. By the end of the day, 150 miles later, it was 45 and slush and sled was sliding all over. Was lots of fun and a little concerned it was my last ride for the season as snow did some serious melting.

Congrats you'll love it even more once your used to it and have it dialed in. Instead of a new windshield get a better jacket? I ride below -20C all the time and never get cold. I have the same windshield.

Engine braking might be enhanced by the clutching the sled has. Been a looooong time since I've driven an RX1 so I have nothing to compare this to.
The tipping feeling you are experiencing could be the combination of two things. First, you are sitting higher than the RX1 so your C 0f G is higher requiring more "Body English".
Second, the skis are holding the corner. This is a good thing but can catch you off guard if you are not used to it.

In the pic it looks like there is a lot of preload in the front springs. Most have found that backing the springs right down to one full turn of preload works best.
This will bring the front end down and the A-arms should be close to parallel to the ground which does help the "tippyness" of the sled.

You can get larger windshields. I run a mid/high and if I tip my MX helmet just right the wind flows nicely over my head. Have driven other machines with lower windshields. I dislike all that wind hitting me in the chest and head.

I have the same windshield also and find it to be good but you can get a taller one. The engine braking is something you need to get used to but once you do it's awesome! Good thing you got a ride in while you could!

I have a nice Yamaha jacket that is warm, I just hate the wind pushing on my chest and helmet. Too old for that feeling anymore, when younger that did not bother me like it does now. Does anyone know if the Yamaha taller windshield has the color on it or is it clear or smoked in the lower area. Has anyone switched over to the clutch spring from Travis and have any feedback on it?

Clutch spring works really well for low speed engagement. Loading or unloading and around parking lots... I don't have one but have ridden friends sleds that do. Doesn't do anything for engine braking though. You can get different types of windshields from Yamaha but I don't think the taller ones have the maroon color. I have seen clear and smoked.

Yes the high center of gravity is part of the issue I am sure, and sure it will not be long till I get used to it as I really love the riding position. I am going to need to lower the front end and retest for sure. I seen a lot of talk about dialing in the suspension and upgrading the sway bar etc. for the twisty's, that is not an issue for me because I have gotten older and wiser. It actually makes me very concerned that it happens, there is not a weekend that goes by where some speedster comes around the corner on the edge of outa control and almost hits me by using the whole trail. Happened twice this weekend again, the second time when the kid jammed his brake his buddy plowed into the back of him. They need to ride on a closed one way trail if that is how they are going to ride, this is why I will not let anyone lead in our group because of this.
