New 2017 Yamaha Sleds...

The RX has about 135-140 real dyno hp and the 2011+ Apex has about 150-155, so i'd say at least 10 hp conservatively as well as crisper throttle response and a broader power band as well. The power difference and driveability is definitely very noticeable!

Your HP numbers on the RX are low more like 140-143. And a gain of 7-10 hp over a 7-8 year span for the Apex is nothing to get excited about considering the weight it gained practically nullified any HP gains.

the rx1 was lucky to have 135 hp and the 11 up apexs are at 168 so yes its a big jump and you just dont have an argument worth repeating ride a new one for 100 miles and then get back on yours and you will hate yours.

Most of the dyno sheets i've seen of RXs have been about 137-142 hp and most of the 11+ Apex have been about 150-155, i stand by those numbers. As for the Apex gaining weight over the RX, i'd say that depends on the model. My 144" XTX with power steering is probably slightly heavier than a 121 RX-1 2003-2004 but that's mostly because of the longer, heavier track/skid rails/tunnel, the power steering and the EXUP. I'd like to see weights from the same set of scales and with the same amount of fluids, that would be interesting, however as I've said before; The RX, the Apex 06-10 and the Apex 11+ do have similar frames, tunnels and basic engine block, however if you ride an 03 or even an 05 RX and then jump on an Apex 06 and up, you WILL find that the ergonomics, the comfort, the mid range power, the top end power, the throttle response, the handling and in case of the 11 up Apex the power assisted steering are all totally different. All the little and not so little changes do add up! If you can't tell the difference, well then i envy you! I wish i could be as happy with a 2003 RX-1 as i am with my XTX, because that would have saved me a lot of money!

The 11 up Apex did not get heavier in fact they claimed lighter due to an extruded upper deltabox, the exup quieted the exhaust enough to allow for a much smaller lighter muffler. The lighter muffler allowed them to completely eliminated the huge dicast rear frame. All in all with EPS and EXUP the 11+ Apex was claimed lighter! No knocking the Viper but so far I won't give up my EPS Apex! If everyone's personal preference was the same we would have one sled to choose from!

X2 on those hp numbers

Yeah Yamaha claims a lot of weight numbers but never posts them, and the viper ain't no lightweight 600+ pds
I like the Apex too, its just every time I look at it it reminds me of an old lady still some how trying to be relevant by thinking that some make up and lip stick will be enough to still attract the boys. Like I said great design awesome sled, just long in the tooth for my money.

So you are saying the Apex is an old Cougar? Haha

We can argue about HP and weight numbers til the cows come home but to keep true to the thread, I'm optimistic that Yamaha will deliver for 2017, because if they don't, it will just put them further behind in sales. There is lots of buzz on other forums that BRP and Cat will be introducing new chassis/engine combos as well. Only time will tell.

You can't have Yamaha build in ski Doo weight unless you have deep deep pockets! I trail ride and drag race, for that my Turbo Apex is as good as it gets. Reverse, power steering, 15-17 mpg and it takes a 250/260 HP turbo cat or viper to beat my 215 HP Apex in a drag race. This is at 5lb boost with detonation controll!!! At 53 that's the perfect trail sled FOR ME!! If or when Yamaha comes out with somthing I like better I will buy it, If they don't I'am fine with what I have for now. Actually if I was going to buy a new sled tomorrow it would be a leftover Apex XTX!

gytr done good one about Woodbridge, a lot of people here do think that way but not me...
We all know Yamaha is over do but doing it this way won't resolve nothing except getting on people's nerves lol..
We can only hope for the best for 2017 Yamaha sleds

Going from my RX1 to the Attak was a big upgrade (ergonomically and suspension) and I'm sure the same is true for the '11 and up Apes. However, power is only slightly better than the original RX1 because it's basically the same engine except with EFI....
It is true that the Apex has been updated over the years of its existence but to say that it is completely different from the original RX1 is not true. Correct me if I'm wrong but there are still lots of interchangeable parts that date back to 2003....an example would be the A arm bushings, so its basically the same front end suspension geometry. If Yamaha actually came out with a new 180HP Ape, I could not pull out my wallet fast enough to buy one and many others would too.
And for everyone talking trash about the Viper, you need to give your head a shake.....I mean just look at all the new Vipers you see on the trail. They have become an extremely popular sled and I have read on here that it accounts for 60% of all Yamaha sled sales....that's huge and I'm surprised it is not more than that. Last weekend I came across 4 Vipers on the trail and guess what they were driving before the vipers......Apexs! So if Yamaha had not switched to the Cat chassis, who knows if they would still be in the market at all. Just my 2 cents....

Rx to the last gen Apex has had about three different front ends. The bushings may interchange but that's about it! The Last gen Apex is so unlike the RX its a whole new sled. I have an RX Warrior and an Apex XTX. Night and day difference.

Last gen Apex is by far the best of them all but all gens are fun to ride and still great sleds. I don't listen to the hype spewed by the competition trying to belittle the Apex.

And on this site and others there are those who have switched to a Viper from an Apex miss their Apex. I myself will not switch to a Viper. Most Apex riders will not switch to a Viper and many who switched bought the Apex thinking it was a sled its not!

As far as trash talking the Viper goes hey its a nice Catamaha but sorry I'm sticking with the Apex!

Hey bro not to get on anyone's nerves on TY, and I apologize to all that I have flustered. But I just want Yamaha to stop dragging there F feet and redo the flag ship model like it deserves. P.S. your Nona is awesome! :)
